My humble thoughts suggest it is a good combo. Antegren corrects the blood brain berrior. LDN corrects the immune system.

I might want to try it that way.

Subject: [low dose naltrexone] LDN + antegren, any thoughts?

I wonder if anybody on this board has given thought to using LDN withantegren as a combo therapy?I am soon to see my neuro, and he's probably going to advise antegrenfor me, given that its about to be conditionally approved...I presently take LDN.Any thoughts on advisability of retaining LDN while doing antegren?

With the caveat, that no one really " knows " , I guess it should be

complementary. Antegren prevents the inflammatory cells from

entering the brain and LDN should prevent apoptosis of

oligodendrocytes..

The more important question is, should one start Antegren without

the 2 year data ?, (assuming the FDA approves it on the 1 year data

alone). I guess we all know the story with Vioxx and countless other

drugs.

Unless one is sinking fast I am with you (Aegis) on wanting to see 2

years of clinical data (all the data). Too many of the clinical

trials of Crab drugs are unimpressive enough, although marketed

otherwise, to make an LDN user think twice about putting something

so new into ones body. Vioxx is one example (there are many) and I

am guessing Lipitor may end up another (See the book Lipitor: The

Memory Thief).

Lipitor and Zocor are meds we've banned from our house. My husband is 71 and has normal memory changes that I associate with the more relaxed life of a retired person rather than true aging issues. But give him Zocor or Lipitor and he just gets plain stupid. Doesn't remember well at all, may go to Wal-Mart instead of Orchard Supply, leaves cupboard doors open, lights on. I tried Zocor for a month when they first published the MS success with mice (also had high cholesterol and was getting pressure from the doc). I quit because I couldn't remember anything, was very inattentive when driving, felt like I'd lost 40 IQ points. These are not uncommon side effects; is the testing of Antegren likely to be any more thorough, especially with the fast track approach?

Hi,

This is just the layman's view: given the fact that Biogen is

conducting a combination trial of Antegren and Avonex, they think

Antegren does not interfere with a drug suppressing (modulating) the

immune system.

In my opinion Antegren does not suppress or enhance the immune

system, only changes the direction of immune cells - so a

combination with a drug like LDN might be beneficial.

I agree that if somebody does not have an aggressive MS, one should

take time to wait for Phase IV, that is post marketing reports of

side effects and long time effects, like appearance of neutralizing

antibodies. But I would not compare this to Vioxx. In case of Vioxx

the negative side effects were discovered during Phase III but the

drug was pushed through the FDA with force. Watch out for small

prints!

I agree with you totally, Aegis. I'm not starting my son on any

drug that is being rushed through trials like this one is. There

are too many ulterior motives for this being done, the least of

which involves concern for MS patients. Scary enough to look around

and see what is happening with the drugs that are put through the

proper paces...I will elect a wait and see approach. As well as my

son is doing with LDN, I'm adopting my 90 year old grandma's

theory...If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Have a great weekend, all!
