Can people buy over-the-counter Folic Acid in a sufficiently high dose to be of real help, or would this be by prescription only?

An argument for adding folate to thyroid treatment regimes is unavoidable.best wishesBob>> Hi Chuck,> Thank you for your original reply to my posting. I am unsure whether an increase in my Thyroxine is the answer to my problems at the moment.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your reply. My Gp said that my last test for iron and

Vit B12 was low, this was done about a year ago. He said it is common

that your Iron and possibly Vit B12 are on the low side if you are

Hypothyroid.

At present I am not taking any supplments, I think my digestion may

have problems with a lot of the fillers used in them. Although I have

realised this is something that I need to look into. I should try out

some recipes with seaweed which contains a lot of Iron, Calcium etc.

and other trace elements.

I have asked for a repeat test for Vit B 12 and iron, although I am

slightly confused by someone ( I think ) suggested that ferritin is

related to iron; but a different test? I think the Gp was just

testing for the number of red blood cells, rather than Ferritin as

such.

My brain fog is not helping in me trying to understand results of

tests and communicating effectively and assertively with the GP.

There is definitely a link between what you are saying about

cognitive ability etc and a lack of vitamins. Possibly the research

suggesting that those suffering from Hypothyroidism are more likely

to get Alzheimers relates to this. I cannot remember the link for

this sorry.
