Guest guest
Some T4 will convert to T3 yes. I got worse with my hypo illness post menopausal too. I don't know what causes it to happen but I don't have high anything yet, well at least I don't think so. Have you had your sex hormones tested to see if you need progesterone or estrogen therapy? Cortisol saliva test? tests for ferritin, B12, vit D? Candida? Something must have changed for you if you have been happily bimbling along until now. Any ideas what changed around that time, was it a drop in your sex hormones maybe and extra strain on the adrenals to produce progesterone? Maybe your doc will give you a full test of how your hormones are balancing out? Worth a try? lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Hi Chris Did you take your Armour BEFORE you had your blood drawn. If so, I would mention to your doctor that the T3 in Armour peaks a couple of hours or so after you have taken it, and would he/she please do another test after you have stopped taking it for 24 hours. We always recommend that everybody stops their thyroid hormone, whether synthetic or natural (or thyroxine alone) for 24 hours before blood is drawn, because it gives the wrong message to doctors and they believe you are taking too much and going hyper. If your GP is interested enough, ask her if she will test you after 24 hours being without thyroid hormone replacement and then test again on another date just after you have taken your tablets, so she can see the dramatic difference. I didn't add 25 mcgs T4 because my T3 was high, I added it because I was not quite 'there' on Armour alone because the amount of T4 and T3 in Armour does not necessarily suit everybody and some of us need to add a bit more T4 or a bit more T3 to balance out our particular thyroid hormone needs. Are you wanting to add T4 and drop your Armour BECAUSE of your results and because your doctor believes you are taking too much? If so, this is not a good enough reason and you might find yourself gradually becoming unwell again. I have seen too many people get into serious problems because their doctor has made them change their meds back to synthetics, simply because they don't understand how natural thyroid extract works. Did you start Armour because you weren't converting T4 to T3, if so, how do you know it might work now? I think you will have to make up your mind Chris whether you are going to follow what your doctor recommend (remembering they know little about natural thyroid extract, and remembering also how well you have felt on it, or whether you are going to carry on your own. Have you considered that you may be getting some symptoms back because you may have low adrenal fatigue, candida, low B12, Zinc, ferritin, Vit D etc. and that if these were treated, you would get back your lovely normal health again when you felt so wonderful. Luv - Sheila I am wondering whether I should, perhaps, add some T4 (thyroxine) to supplement the armour. I seem to remember reading on this site that Sheila found this was the answer. I am reluctant to increase my armour as my T3 is already high. My GP won't prescribe even a small amount of thyroxine as he says it could be dangerous! He has never heard of armour, by the way. He has referred me to an endo in Watford. I don't hold out much hope but he wants her opinion before trialing me on a small dose. Would the T4 just raise my levels in my blood to take me up to say, 20 or would it concvert into more T3? I have given him this website to look at!!! Any advice would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi What stood out to me is that you felt worse having gone through the menopause. Progesterone works with thyroid hormones, but oestrogen dose the opposite. Suggest that you look at http://www.progesterone.co.uk and think about getting some Serenity cream- works like magic for me. There are cheaper progesterone creams, but I have found you need a lot more for the same effect, so it isn't that cheap after all, or they are not so nice to use. Subject: Hypo symptoms when on armour and post menopausal I have been on armour (3grain) for the last six years and felt wonderful. However, about 6 months ago I started to feel not so good. I felt depressed, my get up and go had gone, I felt the world was against me, low libido, dry cracked heels, dry skin, cold, susceptible to colds, rash on my face, etc. I had a TFT this week and my T4 is 17, TSH is 0.5 and my T3 is 12. I know I feel good when T4 is around 20. However, my GP has told me I am overdosing as my T3 is elevated. I have cleared this with Dr P who says that this can be expected when on armour. Now that I have gone through the menopause (18 months ago) I am wondering whether I should, perhaps, add some T4 (thyroxine) to supplement the armour. ------------------------------------ TPA is not medically qualified.
