Guest guest
hi linda, sorry you're not feeling well. i have found that i am taking more and more supplements daily and it often leads to diarrohea. (i stopped taking them for 48 hrs and the grumbly tummy got better) i am trying to space them out throughout the day and it seems a little better. regards jane
Guest guest
Hi , First of all the vitamin C you are taking is probably having an effect on your bowel – the way you know that you have enough C is when you get loose. Stop taking it and the joint and muscle pain might stop as well – if it doesn’t then let me know what other vitamins you are taking and we can take a look at whether they are also causing issues. If you are taking Glucosiamine this will cause joint pain in thyroid patients. Hope this helps Regards Mandy Vitamin C Vitamin C is very important to a healthy diet and one becomes particularly susceptible to allergens when your body doesn't have enough Vitamin C. Vitamin C decreases the permeability of cells. It has a powerful anti-histamine action and detoxifies foreign substances entering the body. Typical dosages can be up to 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C with Bioflavonoids three times a day. The only known side effect of Vitamin C is occasional Diarrhoea if you take too much. So if you develop diarrhoea, cut back on your dosage until you find the correct level for you.
Guest guest
Hi Jane and Mandy, Thank you for your messages...I really appreciate it. I think that the Vitamin C thing is probably right...though I am only taking 2000mg daily. I am loathe to stop altogether because Dr. P. prescribed them...though it may not do any harm to stop the Vit C for a day or two..what do you think? I am taking lots ((sigh)) and lots of vits on Dr. P's recommendation and I do feel a bit like a junkie (haha). I take 1 grain Westhroid 2000mg Vit C (usually one am one pm) 60mg Co Q10 20 drops ginseng and licorice tincture 200 mcg Selenium 250 mg Magnesium 2000mg EPA fish oil (every other day) I try to space out the taking of the pills but mostly they are swallowed in two sessions. I do still drink coffee...can't help myself...but only half caff, only a couple of cups a day (used to drink lots and lots) and water. I don't think I have any allergies but I don't take anything with yeast, take very little sugar (in foods I mean, I don't use sugar at all from the bowl), eat lightly and fairly well. Any other suggestions or information would be very welcome. I will try cutting out the Vit C for a couple of days and see if it helps...let you know - it might help someone else to know which is my justification for bothering everyone on here. Hope you all keep well and thanks. x > > First of all the vitamin C you are taking is probably having an effect on > your bowel - the way you know that you have enough C is when you get loose. >
Guest guest
Hi all, A grumbly tummy can be caused by a lack of Vitamin B – however, – too much Vitamin B can cause a windy and grumbly tummy as the body is unable to clear it from the body. As with all things one has to find their (your) level – vitamins and minerals are good if not essential for thyroid patients BUT it does not mean that some of them may not be required in large doses and without a gap in taking them. I have to take vitamins and minerals for malabsorption but every weekend I try not to take anything at all to allow my body and liver to clear. Hope this helps Regards Mandy

I told Dr P that I could only tolerate one gram of vitamin C per day. I suggested cutting down on fruit and veg even more so I could take a bit more, but he didn't think that was a good idea. I also can't tolerate much magnesium, which is a pity as I am deficient. Also too much of the B vitamins makes me feel sick. So I think you should just take what you can cope with. Guest guest
Hi Mandy, I had overlooked the Vitamin C problem, but, why do you say that taking Glucosiamine might cause joint pain in thyroid patients. luv - Sheila Hi , If you are taking Glucosiamine this will cause joint pain in thyroid patients. Guest guest
Hi there, I can understand where Dr P is coming fro because Vit C if needed for the adrenals but we are all different and I am afraid as I have found out with vitamin and mineral therapy it is a question of finding out what you think you need and then seeing if you feel better by taking it, If you don’t then you either don’t need it or cannot metabolise it for various reasons. Guest guest
Hi , I recently added another multi vitamin thingee to my regime & this gave me diahorrea too when I took it in the morning. I think it was because this has 1000mg vit C when I am already taking 1000mg of it in the morning and this was too much for me. I have now found that if I take it in the evening this works well and no diahorrea. So i wonder if you are splitting your vit C or taking it all at once. Val I am on week 4 of my programme from Dr. P and am taking Westhroid because of the problems of getting Armour. I am on my second week of taking one grain, am taking 3 NAE and 2000mg of Vit C as well as the usual vits and minerals I should be taking...you all know the drill there. in Paisley
