RE: Advice on adrenal stress questionnaire

Hi

Kay - let me predict what will happen and let me know if I am right. She will

really not be interested in the questionnaire (however lovely a doctor she

might be) and will tell you that she doubts that you have an adrenal problem

but if you insist, she might arrange for you to have a short synacthen

test. This test involves taking blood first thing in the morning, and then they

give you an injection of synacthen and wait a while, and then they will take

another blood sample. When you get the result, it will show that your cortisol

level is absolutely fine. I have yet to hear of anybody who has had this

test done where it showed they had low adrenal reserve. This test only shows

whether the patient has the severest form of adrenal dysfunction - 's

disease and it does not recognise any shades of grey between healthy adrenals

and severely compromised adrenals. They say that the synacthen injection would

make a dead donkey kick.

Also,

the NHS only test at one time during the day, where to get a true picture you

need to be tested to see where your cortisol and DHEA are at 8.00a.m. - 12.00

Noon. - 4.00p.m and again at midnight. Your doctor will probably tell you that

the NHS don't recognise laboratories outside of the NHS and she probably will

not even understand what the results mean. If you get nowhere, as you have

scored quite high, you may need to do the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile

privately, so at least you can start to do whatever is necessary to boost them.

However,

having said all of that, do take the results and your questionnaire to her, because

she just might be different and she might be really interested.

Luv -

Sheila

Hi everyone, Joined last week and I downloaded the

above questionnaire,

My score was 2.6. Going to see my doctor tomorrow, should I tell her

about the questionnaire? and what do you think I should ask her to

perscribe if anything ? Or is there something I can do for myself ?

Thanks for your support Kay

That was about the same score as mine. My doc thinks I am just barking

up the wrong tree about everything. I even gave him my saliva tests

for my cortisol levels and he ignored those too. Now I am taking hc

and I am being told it is very very dangerous, and all the horrible

things that can happen to me, crisis, diabetes, getting EVEN fatter

(he does so much for my self esteem lol) bone density loss and various

other nasties. So do I think she will take any notice of you?

She might try to pacify you a bit with a blood test or something.

I wish you luck :) lotsa luv

What IS dangerous Dawn is doctors like your particular doctor

who know a wee bit about the basics in medicine but nothing about the science

behind the medicine. If he did, he would know that if his patients are not

making the hormones their body needs to function naturally, they need those

hormones replacing. I think you need to ask the question that if you followed

your doctor's advice, where would you be right now and it is you who should be

telling your doctor to go elsewhere, not him telling you. This is the cop out some

doctors use, if they don't know how to treat their patient and make them well

again, they find an excuse to get rid of them and let somebody else take the

responsibility. I would feel very tempted to write your doctor a short polite

note telling him that because you are putting YOUR health as top priority from

now on, you need a doctor who is more able to help you do this. To that end,

ask around at your local post office or grocery store which doctor customers

talk about as being the best . This is where the local 'chat' goes on and where

people are usually most honest about their feelings for doctors etc.

Luv - Sheila
