Hmmmm. . . .

That's interesting -

I have most of these:

1. tired for no reason

2. trouble getting up in the morning even when you go to bed at a

reasonable hour

3. feeling rundown or overwhelmed

4. can't bounce back from stress or illness

5. crave salty and sweet snacks

6. feeling best only after 6 PM

well all except for the craving sweet!

But I think my adrenals tend to be overactive - (I also have PCOS and

hypothyrodism) - my cortisol is usually slightly elevated and my DHEA

is almost always high - and occasionally over the reference range for

men. If I understand correctly the adrenals produce many hormones -

perhaps in the hundreds, so maybe saying " overactive " or

" under-active " is overly simplistic.

And there could be other reasons for Fatigue and other symptoms.

Treatment for hypothyroidism and taking iodine has not been as helpful

and hoped.

I have not been diagnosed with chronic fatigue - I feel like I may

have it - but I also feel like that terms is often not that helpful

and sometimes it raises more questions than it answers. (If I

understand correctly - CF has at least several different root causes -

or theories on the root cause - because I guess the cause it still

considered to be a bit of a mystery).

I guess I was hoping to learn a little more about the hormonal aspects

of adrenal fatigue - because I hear a lot about it and also the need

for adrenal suppport on this group. Are Cortisol and DHEA the main

adrenal hormones that are involved in adrenal fatigue or are there others?

See me looking at that list it also screams Celiac Disease. Celiac is tired, cravings, run down, want to sleep, everything you mentioned. Please google Celiac and consider going gluten free for at least a trial of about 6 months. If you need help let me or need more info let me know.

Being celiac also stresses out the adrenals so I think they go hand in hand. It kicks up the inflammation in your body which makes your adrenals pump out cortisol. I don't think you can have one w/o the other.

Marcie:

I don't have Celiac Disease but would relate that there are a lot of people that avoid grains because of the hybridization and contamination from the storage storage methods. I have read Mercola's No Grain Diet several time along with other reports on the subject.

Why do you eat grains.

Would mid back pain when hungry more likely be associated with kidneys or adrenals?I was under the impression that adrenals reactwith stress & hunger is a form of stress. No?Thanks,AliOn Nov 27, 2008, at 2:19 PM, Duke Stone wrote:Marcie:I don't have Celiac Disease but would relate that there are a lot of people that avoid grains because of the hybridization and contamination from the storage storage methods. Steph,

Are you saying that you don't think you can have adrenal fatigue

without celiac? My daughter has AF btu refuses to believe she could

have a problem with gluten.

No, wheat can be an allergy, an allergy is different from Celiac. Celiac is an auto immune condition. If you are not wheat/gluten free at the moment it will weigh down your thyroid, also if you are not wheat/gltuen free you may develope more allergies like to dairy and soy.

Could be dehydration. Most people are not drinking nearly enough water, or drinking too many dehydrating drinks...coffee, tea, god forbid..sodas.

No not at all. I just think that if you are celiac you will probably be adrenal fatigued as well.

My doctor called what I have silent celiac...that my inflammation from eating grains made my fibromyalgia pain go through the roof. I went off grains for six months andmy pain levels lowered drastically and I lost some weight. I remember that before going off the grains that if there were two daysin a row that I didn't have any grains that I would get a stomach ache and tell myself that I needed some bread or crackers tomake my stomach feel better. Little didI know that I was doing a little " hair of the dog " protocol instead and that I wasfeeding an addiction to the grains instead.I thought I would experiment and have somestuffing and dessert at Thanksgiving after6 months of being totally abstinate. Well, every time my food moved to a new placealong my digestive system I had stomachpains so bad that it woke me up ! Lessonlearned. I think those with Irish, Scandinavianand Italian genetic background have the highest incidences of Celiac. > >> > Being celiac also stresses out the adrenals so I think they go hand > in hand.
