Guest guest
- Fret not, it is likely that your anxieties are to do with the state of your adrenals so we are inclined to see everything through the lense of fear when we first start out treating them.I won't lie to you, it can get complicated and difficult to understand the ins and the outs though things become clear as we go along. I remember saying to a friend when i joined this list first that I would never grasp all this T4, T4 stuff....... A steep learning curve yes and it is so empowering to climb this path as become so much more in charge of our health and our future. Take it step by step, you are in good company and - as they say in Ireland, " you are in your Grannys " , in order words you could not be better placed! Mo x > > Hi! Guest guest
Hi Welcome and let me tell you this, I may be whining and moaning but I wouldn't have gone any other way. This treatment when you get it right gives a wellness not enjoyed by me on T4 alone, I have had little tastes of it in between the hiccups, what it can be like, and it is better, honestly, even without getting this treatment perfect it is better than optimal T4 treatment to blood tests for me. Yes it is scary at first and there are scary times for some. It is mostly the adrenal problem that does it, but that is there because of the inadequate treatment of our body prior to this treatment, our bodies have spent time compensating for things and it is only the body trying to function normally when we go on armour that shows them up worse for wear. I was very ill on T4 eventually but it wasn't till I joined the forum I realised that my adrenals were on their way out anyway after years of illness and worry about other things. So take heart. It is fairly easy for some, just lets hope you are one of those. Even the ones who have problems get there in the end. But then I am sure they will be along to reassure you if they are still hanging around here and not off out doing other stuff You are one step ahead of a lot of us with a good GP, at least you can phone him Many here are totally self medicating due to the unwillingness of their GP to help. God bless hon luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Hi Dawn Thank you for your encouragement - I hope its straightforward too! I'm probably not helping myself by worrying either, but I am a cronic worrier! Oh well, its early days, so we will see how it goes. Thanks again. Take care. .X > > Hi > Welcome and let me tell you this, I may be whining and moaning but I > wouldn't have gone any other way. Guest guest
Hi I know how scarey all this can be, when I first started HC I was a pain in everyones neck on here because of my fear of it and doing it alone, so to speak. All the info out there is pretty negative about HC and it frightened me to death. 3 months down the line I am still here and not worrying too much about it now! I am thinking of changing from thyroxine to armour and am finding that a bit daunting, but I just say to myself I am changing from one thyroid med to another and one which is more effective but its still hard when my doc would probably not agree and probably not prescribe it so I will have to pay for it, but maybe if it does wonders for me and he sees that he might consider prescribing it, I can only hope! Good luck and dont worry too much, you will be fine Hi DawnThank you for your encouragement - I hope its straightforward too! I'm probably not helping myself by worrying either, but I am a cronic worrier! Oh well, its early days, so we will see how it goes. Thanks again. Guest guest
Hi - I should imagine that most (if not all) of the members here registered because the too were so discouraged and daunted with the lack of support they received from the NHS. Can I recommend that you buy Dr Barry Durrant-Peatfield's Book " Your Thyroid and How to Keep it Healthy " as he wrote this for patients to help them look after themselves. He explains his reasons for everything he recommends and teaches you how you CAN look after yourself if you are not getting the help you require elsewhere. Dr Peatfield is both Patron and Medical Adviser to TPA-UK. Please be assured that there are many members who have come to this forum and read the information in our Files and Links, asked lots of questions and been given answers and they have also looked at all of the information on our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk AND many of them have regained their health again. Yes, it might mean that you have to learn to self treat and self monitor, but your doctor might see the light and be prepared to go along whatever road you need to take with you. We do find that it is not the doctors fault that they are unable to help us, it is the fault of the teachers in the field of endocrinology. These teachers teach students only that thyroid function tests are all that is required to diagnose and treat hypothyroidism - anything outside of that like symptoms, signs, family history or clinical examination is not even taken into consideration, though these should be. We understand that it is all a little scary for you but the more you read, the more you will understand, and please ask as many questions as you wish. Dr Peatfield is the best doctor for you under your circumstances, so please be assured you could not be in better hands. He has returned normal health back to hundreds of sufferers who have been failed by the NHS. You will not feel rubbish for the rest of your life - look at me. Had I remained with the NHS on levothyroxine only therapy, I would most definitely be wheelchair bound (if even here at all), but seeing a private consultant who knew about thyroid disease put me on the road to complete recovery. As you read through the messages here, you will soon realise that you are most definitely NOT alone. We would not recommend any form of treatment that is not safe. What NHS doctors do not realise is that thyroid hormone replacement will not work for a lot of sufferers because they have an associated condition with their hypothyroidism that stops thyroid hormone replacement from being absorbed. You can read about these associated conditions on our web site. Click on 'Hypothyroidism' and then on' Associated Conditions' and then on 'Adrenals' - and after you have read the information there, go on to read about the other associated conditions. If you suspect you might be suffering from any of these, ask the questions you need to ask and we will help you to understand what you might need to do. You are amongst friends here and you will soon start to understand your condition and what needs to be done. luv - Sheila Hi! I've just joined this group, and just feel so discourged and daunted! I have been to see DR Peatfield, and have just stated Adrenal Extra(day 3 of taking it), and hope to start Natural Thyroxine (Armour if our local Health Board approves it!)My GP is abit sceptical, but willing for me to try this treatment, and willing to prescribe Armour. I am just scared this doesn't work, and I will feel this rubbish for the rest of my life! Guest guest
Hi Yes it is all very daunting which is why this group is so wonderful. There is generally no quick fix. We're all different. It's often two steps forward and another one back but we DO get better, however unlikely that may seem to you just now. At least your GP seems to have half a clue if he/she is willing to prescribe Armour! Stay with it. You are in the right place now. Good luck Pen x

Guest guest
> Thank you Shiela! I have read DR Peatfields book - the first book I read on the subject, and I also read Thyroid Tears by Holms - what an amazing story she has! Its good to know there are people I can ask whenever I am not sure of anything and who understand what I am going through. I think I am abit impatient - I want to be well right now! But I have to say that I do feel optimisitc now, and by the grace of God, through those He has given the gift of helping to heal others, I WILL get better! Thank you for all the work you do - God bless you. .XX > Hi - I should imagine that most (if not all) of the members > here registered because the too were so discouraged and daunted with > the lack of support they received from the NHS. Guest guest
Hi Mo Thank you too for your encouragement - I feel so much more optimistic already. I am blessed to be here! .XX> > - Fret not, it is likely that your anxieties are to do with > the state of your adrenals so we are inclined to see everything > through the lense of fear when we first start out treating them.I > won't lie to you, it can get complicated and difficult to > understand the ins and the outs [Edit Abbrev Mod]
Guest guest
Hi , I remember feeling just like that before I saw Dr.P. It took a long time to get well again, but I knew quite quickly that I was on the right track which gave me confidence to go on. You are lucky to have a GP who will even consider Armour. We are here to answer your questions, and in the meantime read as much as you can on the subject. Subject: Help! Does this work...?! Hi! I've just joined this group, and just feel so discourged and daunted! I have been to see DR Peatfield, I am just scared this doesn't work, and I will feel this rubbish for the rest of my life! Also all the complications and imbalances that can happpen is scaring me too - I feel like I'm going through this on my own! Can someone please put my mind at ease - is this safe? Has it worked for you? Thank you in anticipation! .X ------------------------------------ TPA is not medically qualified. Consult with a qualified medical practitioner before changing medication.
