, do you know why your ankles are swollen? Do you have any pain

in your legs or feet?

Hi Betsy--

I don't know why they are swollen, I thought it was my hypothyroidism

but I'm treated for that now. I've read several times on here that sea

salt can reduce or take away ankle swelling so that's why I asked.

Hi ,

There may be different ways to deal with swelling depending on the

cause. Isn't swelling the movement of sodium into the cell and the

sodium causing there to be too much water inside the cell? Potassium

would make more sense in the case of swelling.

Do you take magnesium? Magnesium deficiency is common with

hypothyroidism. And recently I think I read that when there is a

magnesium deficiency, it's difficult for the potassium to get inside

the cell. Or maybe it's the other way around. But either way,

magnesium and potassium are the minerals that should dominate inside

the cell, but in all too many people calcium and salt are

dominating. It's very important to reverse the situation.

One thing you can try is soaking your ankles in epsom salt, cutting

back on NaCl, and taking a potassium supplement or eating some foods

high in potassium. That might get the water to move out of the cells.

I don't know, of course, if this is the answer since we don't really

know what's causing it. Maybe you could google swelling + causes and

see if any of the causes sound similar to your situation.

Well, for a long time I was on a combo of compounded SR T3+ Synthroid,

then about 6 months ago switchted to armour and am currently at 3

grains. I'm getting all of my labs checked soon so I'll see where I'm

at. I just recently started learning about iodine so I am not on any

of that yet. I did try to do the hydrocortisone thing and I had a

disastrous experience, now I have a yeast problem I can't get rid of.

Anyway, so that is my deal. But my ankles are very swollen and I get

self conscious about it when the weather is warm and they are exposed!

I do not have a heart condition. I weigh about 115 llbs. I usually eat

1 protein rich meal a day and try to include some protein with every

meal and I eat a lot of nuts.
