Guest guest
Have you been on block and release for approximately 18 months. I think it is quite usual when you start to show the improvement that you should that you stop as you have been told and a close eye should be kept on you to monitor how the thyroid gland is responding. I hope this works for you. luv - Sheila I am about to finish my Block & Replace therapy and was told to just stop the medication from one day to the other. I am a bit worried that my body will find it hard to adjust. Has anyone experienced problems after finishing such therapy? Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I have been on Block & Replace for 6 months. At the moment I don't feel that great. Probably hypo but TSH are apparently 'completely normal'. I was curious to find out if anyone on the forum had had the block & replace therapy and how they felt straight after stopping the medication. It would appear most people on the forum are suffering from hypothyroidism rather than hyper or graves. Best
Guest guest
Hi Sorry not to have got back to you but I have been having a few days off and only just got back. Yes, most of the members here are hypothyroid, even if some of them have been hyperthyroid or suffering with Graves' they have gone hypo, and are being treated for hypo, and one day, no doubt this will be your fate too. I think you will just have to bite the bullet, but under your doctors guidance, to see whether you are actually read for this. I think blobk and replace usually lasts longer than 6 months though. What does your doc. have to say? Luv - Sheila > > Hi Sheila, I have been on Block & Replace for 6 months. At the moment > I don't feel that great. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, the last time I saw the consultant he told me my TSH was completely normal so whatever symptoms I have were related to something else and asked me to stop all medication by the end of the 6 months. At the moment I'm loosing my hair big time. He told me to see a dermathologist 'as it couldn't possibly related to my thyroid'! so I'm looking forward to stopping the carbimazole and thyroxine as it would appear from what I've read on forums that it could be a side effect of the medication! Guest guest
Then you need to ask your GP to refer you to a thyroid specialist, and not an endocrinologist who's speciality is diabetes. This endoprat obviously knows little about the workings of the thyroid or the associated conditions that often go hand in hand with it. Losing your hair could have many causes, but the main one is usually having a low ferritin (stored iron)level. Have you had this checked? These doctors should not go by blood test results alone, there are many reasons why your TSH might be showing normal. Has he tested your Free T3 and Free T4 too, and have you been checked to see whether you have antibodies to your thyroid.? Do you actually FEEL hyperT?
