Guest guest
, Steph and Donna, Thank you for your replies. Some of the symptoms of PCOS do overlap with hypo symptoms and many ladies in my PCOS group also have hypo. I have had symptoms of both hypo- and hyper- in the past. All the tests always come back negative though for thyroid so I guess it's just the PCOS for me. I've also had my adrenals tested as I have a family history of adrenal tumors. For the PCOS, I'm back on Metformin right now, 2000mg/day, and although I'm not excited about being on that much, my insulin has come down from 23 in April to 14 in Aug. My goal is under 10. I'm really interested in the iodine and I hope I can get the loading tests after the first of the year. I hope to be off my blood thinner by then. It is very sensitive to other drugs and especially OTCs and alot of foods so I'm not going to do anything right now that could affect it. My mom had breast cancer last year and I am trying to get her to order the free test for cancer patients to see if she might have a deficiency. Blessingsto you all, Cassie>> I just joined the group and I'm fascinated by all the info on iodine in> the files. Guest guest
Cassie, I forgot to mention in my post that I was on metformin for a few years too. I had to go see Dr. Glueck in Cincinnati and be a study patient because my doctor at the time was not comfortable prescribing it. It never lowered my fasting insulin very much. I think originally I was in the 18 to 20 range, got down to 14 or so. Later on when I had to stop it because of endometriosis and fibroids growing faster, I tried a diet that worked quite well. It wasn't easy at first but when I saw my insulin levels at 3 and 4 I was convinced. I have pretty much stuck with that diet until recently (it was a low fat vegan diet - McDougall) and now I'm eating a little meat once in a while, organic grass fed pork and chicken. I'm also going gluten free and think that is a key in this at least for me. As for your tests being negative for thyroid problems, that is what pretty much every thyroid patient has heard at one time or another! I recommend reading everything you can find at www.stopthethyroidmadness.com! Cassie wrote: > > , Steph and Donna, > Thank you for your replies.
