Guest guest
Hi all, This is really interesting and pertinent to me at the moment as being a patient of Dr Myhill in the UK I have just started doing magnesium shots as the movement of ATP across the membrane seemed to sugest magnesium was deficient. I am feeling very weird and quite weak since starting this and wonder exactly what might be happening in my body Rosie Subject: Too much magnesium? Hi Everyone, The article below was posted on Co-Cure a short while back. I don't understand. Is this just saying we have excess magnesium in our bodies but it is not in the place it should be? I am not sure if this has been discussed already, I didn't see it when I searched the archives. Thanks, Maxine Increase of free Mg2+ in the skeletal muscle of chronic fatigue syndrome patients. Journal: Dyn Med. 2006 Jan 11;5(1):1 [Epub ahead of print] Authors: McCully KK, Malucelli E, Iotti S. NLM Citation: PMID: 16405724 ABSTRACT: In a previous study we evaluated muscle blood flow and muscle metabolism in patients diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). To better understand muscle metabolism in CFS, we re-evaluated our data to calculate free Magnesium levels in skeletal muscle. Magnesium is an essential cofactor in a number of cell processes. A total of 20 CFS patients and 11 controls were evaluated. Phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy from the medial gastrocnemius muscle was used to calculate free Mg2+from the concentrations and chemical shifts of Pi, PCr, and beta ATP peaks. CFS patients had higher magnesium levels in their muscles relative to controls (0.47 + 0.07 vs 0.36 + 0.06 mM, P < 0.01), although there was no difference in the rate of phosphocreatine recovery in these subjects, as reported earlier. This finding was not associated with abnormal oxidative metabolism as measured by the rate of recovery of phosphocreatine after exercise. In summary, calculation of free Mg2+ levels from previous data showed CFS patients had higher resting free Mg2+ levels compared to sedentary controls. Guest guest
Steph...might I ask what kind you use? I was using the gel and my skin didn't like it...almost burned. The mag I take now causes too many intestinal issues. Thanks. BarbF In a message dated 6/21/2008 9:50:32 A.M. Guest guest
Why are you taking that much Mg? I used the transdermal mg oil before bed but I am sure I don't get that many mg's at once. Steph Too Much Magnesium? I've been taking between 800 and 1200 mg of magnesium oxide at bedtime. I get up around 6.5 hours later and still feel woozy/relaxed -- anyone else experience this when taking higher doses of magnesium? Gas prices getting you down? Guest guest
Mine burned too but I pushed through it and it no longer does this. I use Ancient Minerals - go to my website www.naturalthyroidchoices.com on the thyroid nutrients page and you can link to it. Steph Re: Too Much Magnesium? Steph...might I ask what kind you use? Guest guest
I got my Ancient Minerals. I sprayed it on my body and it was like dry flakey stuff. It burned over my throat.... I had to wash it off. I thought that was strange ? I think I would want to use it deluted in water. It made my back very itchy...?? I take the Mag product CALM in the evening to sleep. I heat up water and put some mag Calm over it and mix it in. I am now using 2 scoops in my tea. I also have a product that is in a liquid from Whole Foods for Cal/Mag/Phos. which I try to take during the day. Re: Too Much Magnesium? Steph...might I ask what kind you use? Guest guest
I take at least 1200 mgs of magnesium every day and use magnesium oil in addition. I'd lose the mag oxide and try a different form, either citrate or glycinate. Mag oxide is the worst form of mag to take, it will mainly just cause loose bowels. Guest guest
It burned on me too. You are technically supposed to leave it on for 25 mins and then wash it off. I don't do that. I just spray it on after my shower. I don't feel it anymore unless I have shaved and then YOUCH! Steph Re: Too Much Magnesium? Steph...might I ask what kind you use? Guest guest
I get some magnesium in just soaking in epsom salts in the tub for 20-30 minutes and the other benefit is relaxed muscles and it is cheap. I take more magnesium in supplements called Reinforce Bone Formula which tastes good and as a liquid is easier to absorb than pills for me. In about 6 months of use, that stuff has helped to bring my 71 year old mother in law back to cutting her toenails ( 2 years couldn't)and walking much better even though doctor said she needs 2 new hips. She was barely walking anywhere 6 months back. Since she won't do the surgery, at least got her doing something to heal her body.
