Guest guest
Gilly - post your thyroid function test results here so we can check them out. Don't forget to post the reference range for each of the tests also. luv - Sheila I have had a follow up with the endocrinologist, my free T4 and Tsh with in normal range, just yet T3 still high. She upt my Thyroxine but told me to ignore the T3. My own bumped into me today and told me to come back and see her as she doesnt seem elated with endocrinologist, also tol immune system out of whack and very perimenopausal. Is it normal to ignore the T3 if still not in normal ranges. Told my tirness and moods etc now down to menopause!!! Lucky me
Guest guest
Hola Shelia Free T4 is 1.4 (range 0.8-2.0) Free T3 is 13.9 (range 1.40-4.40) Tsh is 0.758 (range 0.30-5.0) The endo'put me from 75 to 100 of levo thyroxine I questioned why she ignored the higher T3 and didn't even want it tested in 2 months when i retest TSH and T4. No real answer. Am going to see my own GP this week who is very empathic. Where I live I have no other choice of a different endo' . wish she would have smiled, that would have helped!!! Thank you All the best Gilly. Guest guest
Gilly - you don't have to stay with an endocrinologist in your area, you can Choose and Book through the NHS a specialist of your choice, anywhere in the UK so long as you are prepared to travel - alternatively you may wish to see a private thyroid specialist. I would definitely demand an explanation as to why this doctor has increased your thyroxine to 100 mcgs with a Free T3 of 13.9. Was this endocrinologist a diabetic specialist or a thyroid one? I hope your GP will be able to help. Where about do you live Gilly. Guest guest
Hi Shelia Thank you for your help. I live in the Caribbean. The endocrine specialist flies in every 2 weeks. I am to see her agin in February. Tomorrw I will see my GP. I have been very weary since saturday when I upt the thyroxine. I will get some answers somehow. I have scoured the net for help and found your site the most useful. Thank you. I only return to the Uk once a year. Not just to see family but for my son who has diabetes type one to have thorough check up, Not due until July! Thank you for continued support. Will question why thyroxine up if T3 high. I am new to all this but felt the same, and wondered why she said to ignore it and not re test it! Guest guest
Have you ever been tested to see whether you have antibodies to your thyroid Gilly? If not, you need to get this done through your GP. There are many medications - including oestrogen, certain types of birth control pills, and large doses of aspirin that can affect total T3 test results, so tell your endocrinologist if you are taking any such drugs. Is it possible Gilly that you are hypERthyroid - your high T3 may indicate Graves disease, a toxic nodule or thyroiditis. You may need a scan to confirm the cause. Hyperthyroidism increases insulin resistance which would lead to higher glucose readings. I would question why your doctor as to the reason whe has increased your levothyroxine with such a high level of T3. Where did you live in the UK before moving to the Caribbean?
