Guest guest
Well Lizzie - you know my thoughts on this and I have watched you go through all of this since your first visit to Dr B. I would ask for a trial of Armour Thyroid and tell him that you have tried every combination of T4 and T3 (though I am not sure whether you have ever tried T3 all on its own). Tell him that although there have been some improvements, you also crash again and now your recent regime is causing you more pain - which I think is a lack of sufficient T3. However, ask him to give you a Christmas present of a trial of Armour. Tell him you will just take it for 3 months to see whether you get the improvements you think you will and that if it doesn't work, you will go back to the synthetics. However, I doubt you will need to as I am sure Armour is what you need. Luv - Sheila I feel inclined to ask for a trial of Armour or it's generic or a reduction in t4 and an increase in T3 and see how that goes. However, last time I suggested an increase in T3 it was 5.4 but Dr B said that it would be better to increase the one that was lower in the range and if he increased the T4 it would bring the T3 up. I always start to feel so anxious about going to see him, I would love to be able to walk in and say 'thankyou, I'm feeling much better now' but sadly I never seem to get to that point. I have times when I think I am improving but then it never seems to last. Oh I do sound to be a real whinger, sorry, I'm just fed up it is twelve months since I first went to see him and I don't think very much has improved in that time. Guest guest
Hi sheila Thankyou for your reply. What does concern me is that my T3 is always near the top of the range so I can't see him giving me more T3. I haven't tried T3 on it's own but may suggest this if he refuses to let me try Armour. If he did prescribe it though, is there not a shortage at the moment and would i be better asking for something else. Just got back my latest Ferritin result it is now 86 having gone up from 15 in january with ferrous sulphate so i am very pleased about this. I have now run out of Ferrous sulphate but do take a multi with 6mg iron in it. do you think this will be sufficient to keep my Ferritin where it shoud be. Guest guest
I am delighted your ferritin level has gone up to a very satisfactory level and yes, your 6mg should help sustain this, but do remember to eat food rich in iron. Hope you are not taking any iron anywhere near your thyroid medications Lizzie. I guess you are going to have to play it by ear when you see Dr B. There is a shortage of the larger grains of Armour so we have to buy either the 1 grain tablets or the 1 1/2 grain tablets and double or triple them up to our required dose. They do keep promising us that we will have the larger grains by the end of the year or early next year, but this has been going on for too long and in this particular case, the rumours must might be right in that Forest will stop manufacturing this brand completely. You can get Nature-Throid or Wetsthroid prescribed by your doctor in the same way as Armour - should your doctor be willing to prescribe it. luv - Sheila Just got back my latest Ferritin result it is now 86 having gone up from 15 in january with ferrous sulphate so i am very pleased about this.
