Hi Audrey,

I have had problems with motion sickness all of my life.

But I fly a lot (comes with being married to a pilot and wanting

to see the world!), I can go out on a boat, and I do generally well

if I pay close attention to diet and my supplements before traveling.

I get terribly sick in the car if I ride in back- front seat is better.

Curvy roads really do me in. I won't actually vomit but I get so nauseated

and headachey that I wish I almost wish I could!

Its come to my attention that my adrenal function is sometimes poor-

part of my autoimmune issues over the years. The worse my

cortisol levels get , the worse my motion sickness gets. So I have been

working diligently to improve my Adrenal function.

When I really need it, Phenergan syrup works well and quickly.

i\It comes in a pleasant tasting, banana flavored syrup- and liquids always

get into the system faster since our bodies are over 75% water.

It has a bit of a mild antihistamine effect too so you may need to bring your

saline nasal spray to compensate for dryness. But if you have nasal allergies

that can actually be a bonus. It is a very safe medication, in general, and is

even prescribed for women in labor who need to rest during a long delivery.

Any doc can prescribe it for you. The generic name is Promethazine. Just a half

dose is usually all I need for a mild to moderate attack.

I make sure to eat a light snack, such as toast or crackers, before travel

and keep the Phenergan handy for when/if I do become queasy. I don't read

or look around, out the windows during takeoff and landing and keep

a vent of fresh air blowing on my face. Keep in mind that the Phenergan

can make people sleepy- but I always found that a plus- especially when I was

on an 18 hour trans-pacific flight!

I also pay close attention to my adrenal health these days and take

a supplement called Moducare. It is made from plant sterolins and improves

the adrenal function without the need to resort to synthetic steroids like

Hydrocortisone. The better my adrenal function, the less motion sickness

I experience.

Sipping cool or slightly warm Ginger tea is also an excellent remedy for nausea.

Just be sure you are not in the early stages of pregnancy as Ginger can be an

emmenagogue and cause some women to spot/bleed or even miscarry if taken in

large doses. You can purchase a bottle of ginger tincture at most good healthfood

stores. It doesn't taste as pleasant as the tea but is easily portable.

I'll take a peek in my herbal book and if I can find anyother good remedies I'll

email them to you as well.

Happy Trails,

Lara
