I think you might want to read the history of iodine! http://www.optimox.com click on research.

I had surgery "to treat" hyperthroidism but that sure didn't treat my problem which was iodine deficiency. If you are hypo or hyper, iodine is necessary to treat your condition..

I would not take antithyroid medications and prepare for surgery--I would just take iodine.

This is what it says:It is used along with antithyroid mediciations to prepare the thyroid gland for surgical removal and to treat hyperthyroidism and thyroid storm. It works by shrinking the thyroid glad and to decrease the amount of thyroid hormones in the body. It talks about decreasing the thyroid throughout the whole sheet. This makes me feel very uncomfortable using the Lugols. According to this, it does the opposite that I want it to do.ThanksDeb

From the people I knew that had thyroids surgically removed,

this is referring to the radiated iodine treatments, NOT Lugols or Iodoral,

which is natural healthy iodine.

That pharmacy sheet is only partially correct. There is extreme iodophobia out there. This is a good website with info on hypoT and Lugol's.

No this is not referring to RAI it is referring to inorganic non radioactive iodine. Lugol's is used to treat Graves but they are missing the hypothyroid component here.
