Guest guest
Hi Mandy Well, it does appear that Christmas has come a couple of weeks early for you. Your test results do show that something isn't right and I am sure once you start treatment you will soon start to put things back into place and that you will start to feel better very soon. You said Santa told you to start at 1 gram (I think you mean 1 grain) but I would err on the side of caution, and start with half a grain (30mgs) for 7 days just to make sure you can cope with the active hormone T3 and the other hormones and calcitonin that is in natural thyroid extract. After 7 days, you can increase by another half grain and stay on that for 3 to 4 weeks before increasing by another half grain. You keep increasing your Armour in this way until you reach your sweet spot. This is usually shown after you have taken an increase and you might start to feel palpitations, sweating, strange and a bit shaky. This is only temporary, but is an indication your body is now on too much thyroid hormone replacement. You simply take no more for the rest of the day, and the following day, you take the dose you were on before the last increase. This dose is usually the dose that you will need for the rest of your life. We also recommend you take Armour twice a day. Whatever dose you are taking, take half well before breakfast and the other half in the afternoon. This is because the active hormone T3 has a short half life, and after about 8 hours you will feel the effect and probably start to feel tired - this is why many sufferers feel they need to nap in the afternoon, because there is so little T3 left in their system. However, be prepared to get these adverse reactions for other reasons too, and these could be that your body is not able to absorb the thyroid hormone supplements because you might have low adrenal reserve, candida (which you will need to treat aggressively and immediately), low ferritin (which you didn't mention) low Vitamin B12 and low vitamin D. We do mention DHEA and ask people to get the 24 hour salivary test to see where their cortisol and DHEA levels lie at four specific times during the day. Your DHEA is low and as we get older, the DHEA levels decrease and many of us need to replace this. However, once taking DHEA (usually 25mgs daily) you often do not feel any effect for up to three months, so stay with it, and be patient. Not everybody needs to treat their adrenals before starting Armour, but if you start to have a problem after starting Armour, it might be that you will have to stop for a couple of weeks to give them a rest whilst you try taking a supplement such as Nutri Adrenal Extra or Dr 's Dynamite Adrenal. These are often enough for most people, but if not, you may need a course of Cortisol. This doctor sounds good, and I am so pleased you have found him after what you have been put through in the past by ignorant doctors who are not prepared to do a little research - though it must be said that few doctors these days have time spare to do research. Can you write to me privately and give me this doctors name please, so I can add him to my good doctors list. Write to me at sheilaturner@... Let us know what diet he puts you on - I'm assuming this is for your candida. You can also read about Candida on our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk - look under Hypothyroidism - and then under Associated Conditions - and then click Candida on the page that opens. It is your low metabolism that allows systemic candidiasis to develop. I really am delighted for you Mandy - once you start your new regime, it could be the first day of a wonderful life. Luv - Sheila He said that he thinks I have systemic candida, which has caused my thyroid problem. He said I definatley have Hypothyroid and its affected all my hormones my DHEA and everything he said he wants me to take 1 gram of armour and I think its 10mg of DHEA, he said that will help my adreanals??? (not heard you say that i ve only heard about corftef)..
Guest guest
Hi Shelia, Thank you xx I got it wrong Iam on 1/2 a grain in the morning before caffine or food, sorry .. So, do you think I should wait with teh armour and get some adrenal support? I asked him about cortef and he said the DHEA does treat the adrenals?? I am a bit confused about this?? Yes, he said I have systemic candida, I need to be very strict and I am going back Tomorrow to have a food sensitivity test but its using a blood test. Its quite pricey £200, and they didnt push me to go for it or anything, they just said that the candida has caused many sensetivities due to leaky gut and i will know exactly what to stear clear of. Once Ive had that he will start giving me supplements to kill teh candida. I said but ive done the candida diet with a homeopath, he said the homeopath was correct about candida but with out addressing my adrenals and thyroid I would just keep going round in circles!! Ive just paid for 3 months of armour and theyinstructed me to start takingit today, which I have at 1/2 a grain i dont really feel anyt different a bit hot and ruff as I had a choclate brownie last night as I knew I have got to be very strict with the diet from today...so feel ruff from the brownie and havent slept all night... Do you think i should not take it yet? I suppose I should do what he says shouldnt I?? Ive still got Barts coming up but I think I am going to take my results and point out teh T3 to them, or maybe the proffessor i saw will put two and two together and work out whats going on I dont know.. I dont want to annouy barts, I would love a proper diagnoses as it may help with whats happened on my right side. I dont feel 100% confident still with what the private doctor said about my muscles, I am not convinced about no stroke yet..be great if it wasnt ..maybe the thyroid is causing it i dont know..but if i can feel better now why not go for it.. I was ghoing to start supplemnts but may be i should wait and see what the doctor says..he wa charming really lovely.. My growth hormone looks quite low aswell will it all go back to normal do you think once i m optimised?? He said my hormones are very screwed up due to teh thyroid and candida but they will get better..?? Thanks so much Mandyxxxx Thanks guys.. Yep I'll send you his details Thank you > Hi Mandy > > > > Well, it does appear that Christmas has come a couple of weeks early for > you. Guest guest
Hi Mandy, Just trust Dr. P - he's the best. Not everybody has adrenal problems that need support with cortef, anyway DHEA is an adrenal hormone which is the precursor to a whole cascade of adrenal and sex hormones. What did he say about clearing the candida? After I finish antibiotics ( taking my third course right now for a tooth abcess)I always take acidophilus to repopulate my gut, obtainable for Holland and Barrett or similar. Feel Like i met Santa today!! I finally got Armour hip hip..hooray..ha ha O He was lovely felt like Id met father christmas lol..this is what he said He said that he thinks I have systemic candida, which has caused my thyroid problem. He said I definatley have Hypothyroid and its affected all my hormones my DHEA and everything he said he wants me to take 1 gram of armour and I think its 10mg of DHEA, he said that will help my adreanals??? (not heard you say that i ve only heard about corftef).. He said \i definatley have a thyroid and candida problem and leaky gut which he will treat and Barts should be able to work out what the weakness is about if treating the thyroid doesnt resolve it!!!! I am excited but a bit worried as I havent got the DHEA yet but he said to take the armour in the morning I thought we had to prepare our adrenals or something???!!! My Growth hormones vquite low really isnt it aswell.. Cant wait to hear from you Hope your better thanks Mandy ------------------------------------ TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
I think its best to treat the adrenals first either with glandulars or HC, I am not sure DHEA should be introduced at this stage? If your adrenals are weak you wont be able to accpet the armour, you really need to boost them first, thats always been the advice here. Did Dr P advice your do the temperature graphing? This is a very useful tool as it shows when your adrenals are stable and well supported. You take your temp 3 times a day, 3 hours apart and then find the average for that day and graph it. Stable temps, within .2 Celsius of each other show well supported adrenals, low but stable temps show poor thyroid with stable adrenals. I am under the impression that until temps are stable no thyroid meds should be started, once they are stable then the thyroid can be started slowly Hi Mandy,Just trust Dr. P - he's the best. Guest guest
Hi Jen, Its not Dr.P his name is Dr.Eccles he is based near Oxford Street.. Yes he said candida diet very important and that in my case he thinks the candida has caused teh thyroid problem from so many antibiotics..he said I really need to have food testing so that we can eliminate whats happening with the leaky gut aswell.. and start supplements I havent got the DHEA yet I am getting it tomorrow but I am a bit concerned as I am so cold my fingers wont work where they are so cold and i dont feel great at all.. I did eat some choclate last night as I was thinking how strictly i have got to do the diet and thought i'll have a bit... I do feel ruff from that but I feel so cold and cant feel any thing from teh armour at all..does it take a long time to kick in or something... Just spoken to someone who said the DHEA may make my cortisol even lower and cause me to go hypo...I am very stressed at the mo and confused.. I do have confidence in this doctor he was ever so nice. I asked him about cortef and he said no need DHEA will support the adrenals..maybe I needed to take that today with the armour.. Take care mand > > Hi Mandy, > Just trust Dr. P - he's the best.
