Hi Sheila,

thanks for the advice...wow,I'm really not getting this am I, I think I need 'hypothyroidism for dummies'..

My stored iron is o.k but I scored high on the adrenal test so I guess that I'm just going to have to be patient with getting them supported.

many thanks as always,

julia

We are (or were) all dummies when we first came to discover the ins and outs of hypothyroidism , I felt a total ninny about everything when I first came onto a thyroid forum and it was all double dutch.

Anyway, back to the business of you helping support your adrenals. There are various supplements you can use, and perhaps the best one is Dr 's Dynamite Adrenal, but that works out very expensive. You can look around the Internet but the one we usually recommend is Nutri Adrenal Extra. You can buy this from www.yournutritionshop.co.uk However, before starting NAE, it is recommended that you should stop your Armour for at least a couple of weeks, 2 is better. There will still be plenty of T4 left in your system to tide you over this period, so don't worry about that. This is because your adrenals are going need all the help they can get when starting NAE and they don't want the extra work of trying to take care of your thyroid hormone replacement, so this is why we recommend just looking after your adrenals and nothing else for this time. You can then start your Armour again and carry on in the usual way.

You start by taking one NAE a day with your breakfast (always take with food) and after a few days, add another tablet with your lunch. Don't take any after 1.00p.m. because there is a trace of adrenalin in these tablets and there is always the possibility it might keep you awake. After a couple of weeks, add another tablet with your breakfast dose and if no adverse effects, and there really shouldn't be, add another tablet with your breakfast after another 2 weeks. Some people manage on this dose fine, but you can keep increasing up to 6 (or even 8) tablets daily. These should help boost your adrenals so they are more able to cope and you should find then that your thyroid hormone replacement starts to be absorbed better.

Luv - Sheila
