Hello

I've got myself confused with all the symptoms and side effects, so I

was wondering what would cause my heart to race?

It happens every couple of days or so and I've been trying to pinpoint

anything I've done beforehand that could cause it, but I've not been

able to see a pattern.

I'm currently taking 35mg HC a day and 2 grains of Armour.

Is it too much or too little of one of the above, or even something

else? The racing heart episodes last for less than 30 mins and are

accompanied by feelings of anxiety.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Jane

Jane, you need to drop back on your Armour dose for a few days,

as when taking HC, quite often, you don't need as much thyroid hormone

replacement. Drop[ back by half a grain and see how you feel in a couple of

days, and if the racing heart episodes stop, this would point in this

direction. Let us know how you feel on 1 1/2 grains.

  • 2 years later...

Hello,

I have been quite worried by the fact that I have occasional racing

heart which pulses up to 140 for ten minutes or more then evens out

again. I have come down to just 2gns NT although Dr P suggested trying

to go up to 6 grains today I dropped down to just one. I also take HC

and 4 NAX. Could either of these cause the heart to race? The reason

for my concern is that I suffered three heart attacks followed by an

emergency 3xby-pass two years ago.

I am waiting a reply from Dr P as I sent in my charts and diary. My

temps are levelling out at around 97.4, higher than they have been for

a long time and I am also now able to walk further than for a long time

so I am definitely improving but could anyone throw light on the

galloping heart rate which is quite scary?

Also how long does one take NAX for and do I taper this off gradually?

Thank you

Regards

Audrey

It sounds like a lack of Magnesium. Are you taking Magnesium citrate (about 400 -500 mg spread over the day)? That should help with the palps. > Also how long does one take NAX for and do I taper this off gradually?

Personally I would always taper any adrenal support off gradually, reducing by 1 per tbl/week or so .... but you have only been on NAX for a short time, so I wonder if tapering off is indicated just yet. I've been taking adrenal support for 4 years now and still need it.... but I know, you take HC as well, and that might make a difference. Just follow Dr. P's advice and you can't go wrong.

Love,

xx

Thanks .

However, I was wondering whether my nature-throid was the problem and

have now reduced it to just one grain a day and the problem is easing.

But isn't that too low? I guess Dr P will help me out but then he

suggested I tried to increase up to six and no way could I tolerate that

amount so it might be that I need Just T3?

On the bright side I am having better days and managing to stand for

much longer and even go for short walks. This is something I have not

been able to do for years. Also the muscle pain and aches are

diminishing and I haven't used my mobility scooter for almost 5 weeks

now. Good innit?

There is another problem bothering me and that is that at times I am

unable to get words out and a long telephone conversation cause me a lot

of distress in that my brain hurts! I stutter and get the wrong words

coming out, can't think or remember stuff and all that and it is so

painful. Can anyone relate to this? When anyone rings me I dread that

they stay on for long. Even listening is exhausting at times and

yesterday a friend was on for 40 minutes and it was dreadful for me. I

just wanted to crawl into a hole and be quiet and in a dark space to

recover. It took me a couple of hours before I recovered. Folk have

often asked why I don't ring them but, of course, they can't comprehend

what the problem is. Typing is much easier.

Love

Audrey

One thing that can cause a Racing heart is a Drop in Oxygen. This happens in

Sleep Apnea.

You say that you can't pinpoint what you've done beforehand, could it be that

when you relax, you get some obstruction that causes Oxygen starvation, which

triggers this heart race??

Hi,

For a few years I used to have palpitations, but early this year I had a racing

heart and palpitations - pulse jumping from about 52 to 120.

On talking to Dr P he said it was because I was taking too much T4. In April my

GP had said that as my T4 test was low, I should take extra T4 - I was already

taking 1 1/4 grains of NDT and 35mcg of T3.

I have since stopped taking the extra T4, reduced the NDT to 1 grain and

increased T3 to 40mcg. I also take magnesium morning and evening and an Epsom

bath once a week.

It has taken some time, but my racing heart beats and palpitations have almost

stopped.

With hypo, I think it is never going to be a straight road to feeling well.

I'm a little surprised at this. People who use the Buteyko technique (often to

relieve asthma) find that the oxygen deprivation, or perhaps more properly

exposure to carbon dioxide, which is central to the technique temporarily causes

a slower pulse.

Not sure why it happens Hans, I'm only stating facts.

Maybe in the case of Buteyko, the person is in control & relaxed, whereas in an

Apnea event, the person is unaware of the blockage until the fight/flight

response kicks in & boosts heart rate to get the Oxygen level back up?

In fact, from what I've seen of Buteyko, it's really hard to learn. They

probably go through lots of gasping & racing heart before they get the

technique.

I was wondering about this. I am on HC and i can tell I do not need to take as

much. When I take my thyroid med in the morning, then add my HC an hour later..I

go hyper and aggressive. So do you think I have treated my adrenals long enough?

I have been on HC for 6 months and my temps are always 36.3 or 4....I am trying

to figure out what to do next.
