Guest guest
Stem cells may save diseased teeth 9:40 AM November 21 Researchers in Adelaide have found stem cells exist inside the teeth, in a discovery that could one day lead to teeth being regrown or repaired. Researchers say they have found a colony of stem cells existing in the core of a human tooth. Stem cell biologist Stan Gronthos yesterday told a symposium on stem cell research that the goal is to store harvested dental stem cells in liquid nitrogen, ready for use to repair damaged or diseased teeth. But he says there is a lot of work still to be done. " It's a complex organ and it's got many tissues associated with it so it's going to take a lot of study to actually try and form a living tooth in an animal, " he said. " At the moment technology is at the stage where we can probably repair portions of the tooth. "
