Guest guest
Poor you Jane, Have had shingles at least once for sure, and after last episode, when seen by dr, realised it was the second time! Oops! If you get to the GP within the first couple of days, I believe they can give you something that inhibits the rash spreading? Funnily enough, I got mine on the back of my head, which still gets sore and aches for no apparent reason in the same area. Five years later! Take care, hope you have a good holiday, rest up loads. Guest guest
Hi Jane I am sorry that you appear to be coming down with Shingles once again. Did you manage to get hold of Dr Peatfield? Have a look at this link http://www.drugs.com/cdi/hydrocortisone-solution.html and note what it says about hydrocortisone products and shingles etc. I would get to your doctor first thing in the morning. Let us know the outcome, and like you, I sincerely hope it stays off your face and that you have a good holiday. Luv - Sheila I am not having a very good time at the moment. After all my stress last week about running out of HC and not being able to contact Dr P I seem to be getting shingles. I have had it before so I think I recognise the signs. Unfortunately it is once again appearing on my face. I have read that steroids and a supressed immune system can make shingles more likely. Obviously I will have to se my GP tomorrow but I am dreading what they will say if I have contracted shingles after treating with hydrocortisone. I am going on holiday in a week. I really hope I don't have shingles all over my face while I am away. Jane _._,___
Guest guest
Hi Jane, I know adding two tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda to your bath relieves chicken pox blisters and clears them quicker but I don't know if the same is true for shingles. I did a search and found this link which mentions applying bicarbonate of soda mixed with water to the skin---- http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:sAew92HIbDsJ:www.holisticonline.com/Remedies/Shingles/shingles_common-sense.htm+shingles%2Bbicarbonate+soda & hl=en & ct=clnk & cd=7and one blogger who was recommended by his doctor to use it in his bath. I'm not sure if this is grounds for trying it but thought it was worth a mention.Best wishes >> I am not having a very good time at the moment.> > After all my stress last week about running out of HC and not being> able to contact Dr P I seem to be getting shingles.> > I have had it before so I think I recognise the signs. Guest guest
Hi Jane, An antiviral may help within about 72hrs. http://aje.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/external_ref?access_num=2356804 & link_type=PUBMED PREDICTORS OF SELENIUM CONCENTRATION IN HUMAN TOENAILS What is known as ACE selenium may help with immunity ~ that's vits A,C,E, and selenium and fruit and veg for similar reasons... selenium on its own may be enough but it's better to make sure with all the supporting vits for enhanced immunity.......for the same reason that ACE Selenium may help prevent some types of cancer(s). best wishes Bob > I am not having a very good time at the moment. Apparently you can't catch shingles, you only get it after having had chickenpox at some time. But it seems chichenpox can be caught from the open sores of shingles. I didn't know that. I just read this when looking up info on chickenpox. Hope you feel well soon.
Guest guest
Miriam, I broke out with shingles a few days before a doctor's appointment, so I phoned and asked if I could get something to relieve the itching and pain. He phoned a prescription for propoxyphene in to the pharmacy for me. In the meantime, I put some Cortizone 10 ointment on it several times. The rash started drying up and was barely visible when I went in for my appointment. The itching ceased after 2 or 3 applications of the ointment. Dr. said I was lucky. The pain was another matter, it is still recurring but is not as severe. As I have graves disease and graves opthmalmopathy, I am always looking for the latest information. A couple of weeks ago, I ran into something interesting. An article that stated that it is believed that low vitamin D levels are responsible for shingles attacks. Can't remember where I read it but thought it rather interesting. Take care. PJ
