Guest guest
I found a new summer camp that looks good. Hattie Larlham has created a camp that works on social skills for children with ASD. Here is the link: http://www.hattielarlham.org/children/camp.htm Registration starts this Saturday. Check out this link for more summer listings: http://www.milestones.org/ resource_recreation.htm Bring on the sun! Kiersten P.S. Has anyone had their kids at the Lakeland Summer camp put on by Northcoast Education Services in the last two years? Wanted to find out what they are like for children with ASD. Guest guest
Kiersen - My son went to the Academic Fun and Fitness Camp last summer - the whole day program - between first and second grade. They worked on reading and math in the morning, and in the afternoon, they did creative or scientific projects while practicing social skills. He liked it and when we picked him up, he was always tuckered out from physical activity in the gym. We signed up for the afternoons only this year, so that my younger children could sleep in, and also, my oldest really doesn't need academic help at this time. At parent's day, I could see that all the other campers were good kids and they took pride in what they had accomplished over the summer. They all accepted each other. We and my parents all thought that my son did learn a lot socially at the camp, which is why we signed him up this year, too. Feel free to ask me for more detail if you are interested. P.S. That Hattie Larlham program looks interesting too. I plan to see if they have a once a week social group that woud suit my son.
