When to have sex hormone tests?

Hi, all,my friends.

I plan to have my sex hormone panel tested, including 6 hormones,

Estrogen (E2)

FSH

LH

PRL

Testosterone

Progesterone

However, I received contradictory information from two endo doctors. One

told me to have them tested on the 3rd day OF(within) the mentrual

cycle, the other said I should be tested on the 3rd day AFTER the

menstrual cycle. Also I saw on the internet that some people tested the

first way, some other tested the second way. I am really confused!!

I googled for follicular phase, it lasts for about 13 days when the

mentrual cycle began. So both times are included in this phase, and the

lab references are in this phase, too. But that information doesn't give

a clear clue/hint on the best time for tests.

Anyone has wise points or experiences on it? Should I ask a

3rd,4th...Nth doctor to confirm? Thanks.

Hi,

I struggled when I had to have them done especially as my cycle is all

over the place. When you get your results you will get the reference

values for each stage ie luteal, follicular ..

You can then then work out yourself which stage you were when the test

was done and read the results accordingly. Sorry, can't be more

helpful than that.

I have had the test done which showed my progesterone was far lower

than is normal for a post menopausal woman. I only had three hormones

tested though. It was the one where you spit into the vial and freeze

before posting.

When you receive the pack from the lab it has detailed instructions on

when to take the test, I figure they know what they are doing so

unless anyone knows better I should go by what the lab says.
