Wednesday, May 9, 2007 Holiday Inn Select Strongsville, Ohio Target Audience: Psychologists; Social Workers (intermediate level); Marriage and Family Therapists; Licensed Professional Counselors, Case Managers and Teachers Program Description: Thirty years of research has amassed a preponderance of evidence that early intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is the most likely to make positive, long-term improvements in the overall quality of life. The purpose of this training is to examine intervention strategies in teaching social skills to these children. Professionals will learn about a hierarchy of skills and how to effectively teach the skills to their clients. Educational Objectives:

After completion of this program participants will be able to: · List a minimum of three barriers that impede social interactions for children on the Autism Spectrum · Write three possible reasons for non-compliant behaviors · Cite at least three methods for assessing social skills in children with ASD’s · Identify strategies for the teaching of social skills involving individual and group interventions · Prioritize skills to teach based on level of need and impact on the overall social domain of a child Continuing Education Credits: One hundred percent attendance is required to obtain credit hours. Completion of an evaluation is also required for participants to receive credit. The certificate of completion will be mailed within 30 days after the participant has completed the workshop. Psychologists: Vocational & Psychological Services is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Vocational & Psychological Services maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program offers 6 CE credits for psychologists. Counselors: This program has been approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors. Six Continuing Education Credits have been approved. Cheryl Lucchesi, MSEd, BCBA Ms. Lucchesi is the Clinical Director of the Lawrence County Office of Vocational & Psychological Services. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, providing consultation in the development of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and Discrete Trial Training Programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. She conducts social skills training groups for children and adolescents with Autism, PDD and Asperger’s Disorder.

Crossley, MA. BCBA Ms. Crossley is the Director of Autism and Program Development at Vocational & Psychological Services. She is a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst and provides consultation and training to advance the knowledge and skill-base for intervention strategies around Applied Behavior Analysis and conducts social skills training groups. Ms. Crossley has been an adjunct instructor at several colleges and universities and has an extensive background in the field of mental health with children, adolescents and families at local, regional and statewide levels. As a grant writer, she has developed programs from concept to implementation. Vocational & Psychological Services Vocational & Psychological Services (VPS) provides mental health services to children, families and individuals in our five offices in Western Pennsylvania. VPS offers psychological evaluations, outpatient therapy, group counseling as well as Wraparound and consultation services related to autism and other developmental disorders. Autism programs are developed and supervised by experienced professionals trained and certified by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board.
