Hi Trudy and All,

Trudy, what you have experienced reminds

me

of what happened when I tried to do a niacin flush. If you haven't had

a lot of niacin, maybe you have become strongly allergic to something

that you ate.

Mike

P.S. The niacin flush that I experienced felt like the skin on my body

was set on fire. I will never do that again.

Hi,

Although it's hard to say what it was specifically that happened to

you, it also reminds me of a niacin flush. My first experience with

this was also alarming, but I have since come to appreciate what

niacin does for me. It helps with circulation by dilating the

vascular system.

It has been suggested that the burning itchy sensation, sometimes

accompanied by redness, could be a histamine reaction to a release

of toxins by the cells near the capillaries, which would have

suddenly received some oxygen and nutrients. I don't have any

references to verify this though.

Overall, I find that niacin helps me with heachache relief and

relief of joint and muscle pains. As you use niacin, the flushing

is diminished significantly. Now I enjoy the temporary sense of

warmth and maybe I've been conditioned by the expectation of pain

relief.

Did you take niacin? What you describe is a classic niacin flush.

Thanks,

Doris

Unfortunately it is the people who react that strongly who most seem to need

the niacin. My family has genetic factors for hypercoagulation, and we all

flush an amazing amount. However on heparin I did not flush at all (the

hypercoagulation was gone while I was on heparin.) There have been other

reports that the people who hypercoagulate have the most flushing.

It does get better over time, and believe it or not you get used to the

flush and start to actually enjoy it. You can also take 1/2 aspirin 30

minutes before and flush much less. Or start with a small dose and work

your way up.

Thanks,

Doris

Hi Mike and Laurie,

I was wondering if this was a Niacin Flush. After I had this

experience, I did a net search. With my experience, I had turned red and

had the heat, but not the itchiness. Okay, Laurie, I'm just going to

keep it up since it sounds like this is a positive thing that is going

on here. Thanks for getting back to me on this. ...As you can probably

imagine, I had a few panicky moments there! ;-) LOL

Kind regards,

Trudy

Newly developed peanut allergy? Peanut allergies, as I'm sure you know, can

be quite dangerous.

.....ooooh, pretty exciting! LOL This rates right up there with seeing

parasites! ;-) LOL

Hi Trudy,

Peanut butter is a food that has one of the highest niacin

concentrations. Check out this website:

Sounds like a niacin flush to me. Do your vitamns have niacin in them instead

of niacinimide?

Burning Sensation

Hi everyone,

I have just had a very strange experience. I took my morning vitamins.

(I take my minerals in the evening.) Then I had two slices of toast

with crunchy peanut butter. About 15 minutes later I started to burn

up. It started on my face then I noticed my arms, and then I realized

it was my entire body. Initially, I panicked and got a wet face cloth

and tried to cool my face and arms down. I then just went to lay down,

as my whole body felt like it was burning. (It felt like I was under

1,000 heat lamps.) After about 10 minutes, things seemed to be back to

normal.

Does anyone have a clue what this might have been?

Kind regards,

Trudy

I took less than half an iodoral and I have an awful burning ,

heartburn feeling that goes from my stomach all the way up to my

throat. I took it with food too. Is this common because i feel like i

wont be able to take the iodoral again if i am going to have this.

That's the problem. You should have taken it with the chicken dinner. A banana is not enough to buffer it in your stomach. Also you may wish to take it before mid afternoon as it can cause insomnia in some.

Not sure how to evaluste ththe time time line on the reaction but a banana and a glass of water doesn't sound like a reason for a reacton unless your stomach was really empty.Protein with what ever slows the stomach emptying. where as a banana probably moves through pretty fast.

The only way to know is to try it again. Remember that iodine is an antimicrobial, bacterial and viral agent. You may have issues in your stomach that iodine brought to light.
