Guest guest
Hello, I had been taking about 50 mg. iodine daily in divided doses with Selenium. I had also been taking progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, hydrocortisone, various supplements (Omega 3, Nystatin for candida, iron and Vit. C to bring up ferritin, CoQ10, magnesium, etc). Found out I had a reverse T3 problem after blood work since Armour didn't seem to be doing anything for me other than bringing my TSH down to about .003. Anyway, it was suggested maybe I have a reverse T3 problem so I got the blood work for that which showed I do, so I got my doctor to prescribe Cytomel (T3) to help clear it out. I was taking up to 20 mg/day of the hydrocortisone and began raising the T3 slowly (or so I thought I was going slow). By the third week I was up to the 50 mcg. I was told it could be hard to take the T3 if you have low ferritin and low adrenals, which I do. Anyway, by the third week my ankles were very swollen (for me) and felt like I could pop them like a balloon. I also got to thinking that if I have Reverse T3, that I don't want anymore T4 in my system that the T3 will have to get rid of. So, since I believe the iodine stimulates the thyroid, I thought that maybe until I get the Reverse T3 & excess T4 cleared out of my system, maybe I should stop the iodine so it doesn't stimulate my thyroid to produce more T4. (An iodine loading test did show me at about 64% a few months ago, and then I began taking the iodine.) Well, I've pretty much stopped most of the supplements and hormones, and iodine, and the hydrocortisone and T3 so that I can see if I can get the swelling to go down and then start from scratch and get the hydrocortisone back up to 30 mg/day and then go REAL slow with the T3. I'm trying to figure out what is actually causing the swelling. Well, after all this background, I guess my question is, since I still have the swelling in my ankles after being off the T3 for four days and the swelling barely going down, I'm wondering if the fact that I stopped the iodine could have anything to do with the swelling continuing -- or maybe it is just because my cells are confused and the fact that I stopped everything. I thought by doing this my body would just excrete whatever excess I had that what causing the swelling and then I could start from scratch. I guess my main question is whether anyone has ever had experience with swelling after coming off iodine, or any other weird body symptoms. I'm just trying to rule out what could be causing it.
