If your son is also GF in addition to CF check to see if DariFree has Barlymalt in it. Some soymilks have barleymalt or maltodextrin which contains gluten.

Giant Eagle (I know in Garfield Heights) carries the soymilks now. See if your local Giant Eagle carries it.

Our son is on the GFCF and many folks who support this diet also claim soy should be eliminated. We use almond milk from the mustard seed as a milk substitute and a vegan cheese for a cheese substitute. However, we do use soy pudding and yogurt also available from the mustard seed.

It's always best to check labels periodocally, I found one item that had changed ingredients a few months after I had started using the product and there was nothing on the front of the package about the change. This particular product started using corn starch in the ingredients and corn products haven't yet been acknowledged as a gluten substance.

Just make sure any product say's Gluten free on it. and no corn starch in the list of ingredients.

Dari-Free was recommended in Seurossi's book as one of the best GFCF milk alternatives, so if it passed her muster, I'm sure it's fine.

This is what www.allergygrocer.com says about regular and chocolate Dari-Free:

Regular:

Potato-Based Non-Dairy Milk Powder Alternative: This creamy, mild, & very pleasant flavored non-dairy powdered substitute made from potatoes. This fortified milk substitute is creamy & tasty, very kid-friendly, & rich in calcium. Excellent for drinking & baking! Mix with water to replace milk or use as dry powder in any recipe calling for dry milk. For best freshness, refrigerate prepared liquid in airtight container & use within 7-10 days. Not designed to be used as an infant formula.

Shelf life 2 years minimum.

Kosher Parve (Scroll-K).

Feingold® - Stage 1.

19.5 oz can (makes 6 liquid quarts)

Water Directions: In a mixer/server, blender, or a container with a screw-on lid, add 1 rounded cup of Vance's DariFree Original ( more or less for a creamier or lighter taste) to about 2 cups of hot or cold water (hot water makes a creamier mix). Blend or shake vigorously until thoroughly mixed ( will not mix well by stirring only). Then add enough cold water to make 2 quarts and chill. Stir well before serving and enjoy.

For a creamer, add 1/3 cup of Vance's Dari Free Original to 8 ounces of water & mix.

After mixing with water, Vance's Dari Free will stay fresh as least one week with refrigeration. Once this carton is opened, we recommend placing the remaining mix in an air tight container to maintain freshness.

They are temporarily out of stock for the chocolate Dari-Free, but you can be added to the waiting list, and allergygrocer will e-mail you when it's back in stock.

I don't know if Wild Oats or Mustard Seed carries this...I never looked. But, it would be worth it to give them a call and find out.

Thanks so much ... was trying to find a local source - wonder if a

Wild Oats or Mustard Seed would carry something like this. Thanks

again for info.

> My son took it for a while...it's best if you mix it up in a

blender. There's even a special pitcher you can buy for it, so that

you can mix up a batch and then stir it up before serving. It's

kind of "sedimenty" -- gritty -- if you don't mix it up before

serving or if it has stood for awhile. He did eventually tire of

it, but we did go to soy since he could tolerate soy. Now, he won't

touch any of it, so we have to supplement him with calcium and

multivitamins. You can get it at www.allergygrocer.com. They sell

the pitcher too.
