Guest guest
HI Barbie: Coconut oil is a saturated fat but not all saturated fat is bad for you. The fat in coconut oil is not stored in the liver and goes directly to the body for use for energy. In cultures were coconut oil is used, there is virtually no obesity, no heart disease, little diabetes and few dental cavities. I am certainly not an expert on coconut oil as I have just read a little bit of the book, But one thing coconut oil is known for is being thyroid friendly. It seems that oils made from grains, especially soy, depress thryoid function and coconut oil speeds up the metabolism. I wish I knew more but I only have read a bit of the book, There is a website called tropicaltraditions or coconut-info.com. I am not sure of the exact addresses but a search will find them easily for you. I have been taking coconut oil for about 2 1/2 weeks and have noticed I have lost a little weight (also maybe d/t LL and watching what I eat), but quite an increase in energy. Good luck and I hope I have been helpful. Wayoata Re: Breakfast Hi Connie, I think it's ok to have your oatmeal or bran cereal in the morning and stick stringent to the low carbs the rest of the day. Guest guest
Hi Wayota, You will love the book. I am sort of following it but not totally. He has two different diets in the book, one for low carb people and one for people who like to eat grains, fruits, veg, etc. That is the one that I am sort of following as I am not a real meat lover and tend to lose more weight when I eat fruits and vegies, nuts, seeds, whole grains and some protein. I have cut out all white flour and sugar and other than that I am going to eat pretty much what I want and food combine. I have also given up all other oils and margarines, but did that a long time ago. I love the coconut oil!! How much do you take a day? Guest guest
Hey : I shoot for 3 tbsps per day. I VCO on crackers or I just dump a tsp in my tea or coffee and let it melt. I also use it in cooking, not that I cook much. I think I will buy the book on Wednesday because that is my day off. I am glad to hear that the book " honours " the two major trains of thoughts in eating plans - low carb and a more balanced way of eating. I think I will be following the plan you are following because I am not a big meat eater either. I prefer to kind of graze my way through my day. Also, I work shiftwork and I find it difficult to cook meals because my schedule is so werid. Cutting out the " whites " (white flour and sugar) sure sounds like a good way to go. If I eat that stuff I am simply starving all the time and it seems like I can never get enough to eat. Good luck and keep us posted. Guest guest
hi Carolyn! I like Kashi Go Lean, too! I also like their granola type bars - very good for snacking on the run. I really should make an effort to eat cereal more often, right now I'm on a whole grain toast w/ pb and apple butter kick. I'm sure the cereal would be more nutritious, though.... anyway, I would think a banana or other fruit would help with the fiber issue, but for extra protein a bit of cottage cheese or yogurt may be a good idea. Of course, I LOVE peanut butter and will find just about any excuse to eat it - which is why I have it in the morning, I find I'm less likely to overeat it that way - - then, say, during an evening binge!! I usually buy bananas green and let them ripen on the counter, of course, they all ripen simultaneously and then you end up with the over-ripe ones which will generally be an excuse for making banana bread! My daughter has been on a banana kick and has been eating like two at a time - so they're going fast in my house for the moment! Take care, Donna Who is scarfing her plain yogurt down now so I won't overeat at dinner, and guess what?! The chocolate lady at work (the lady who has the chocolate candy that she leaves out for everyone) has announced that the chocolate is going away due to all of our complaining. I " m relieved, I will miss it. I would never dream of going to the vending machine for a candy bar, but I thought nothing of visiting her office several times a day for a " mini " (which I'm sure added up to at least a full candy bar a day!) I was good today, though, just one mini reese's pb cup. the peppermint patties are already gone and they were always a big weakness of mine after lunch. --- Carolyn or Visser <pvisser@...> wrote: > i love to eat kashi go lean with 1% milk and splenda > on it for breakfast. a > mere 270 calories that holds me for 4 hours! > however, the stupid grocery > store was sold out of go lean today the only > other cereal that i like is > special k so i got some of that. > > what is a good way to boost the fibre and protein of > special k? would > having a banana with it do the trick? or should i > also add PB? > > also, do you buy bananas when they are green? and > keep them in the fridge? > or should i keep them on the counter until they > ripen and then put them in > the fridge? > > sorry for all of the goofy questions...lol > :*carolyn. > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
i know not exactly what we are discussing but my kroger here(and only my kroger i check every other one) was having a closeout on kashi bars.i grabbed the last of the peanut butter, cookies and cream, and a few of the chocolate malt. i used to eat these with some fruit when i worked long hours and just couldn't sit down for a full meal. lots of protien and 7grams of fiber. its good stuff!!!! as for what to mix in with special k maybe some raspberries or strawberries would go good for a bit of fiber boost as well. if you can't get those then bananas are great too. i find i fill up quickly when i have a banana with cereal.lately, for myself, i have tried to get some sort of fruit even if its 6oz of oj, and some protien source like peanut butter or eggs(not together LOL) but i have small portions b/c i want to be able to workout within an 1 1/2 hours or 2 hours so its just enough to keep me satisfied until after my workout when i will have some low-fat yogurt and maybe an apple. kassia What are the most popular cars? Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, I like bananas and whenever I have stomach problems I will make sure to eat more of them. Anyway, when you bring them home lay them on the counter to rippen. When they begin to over-rippen put them into the frig. What about a few nuts in your cereal? They are protein and it would be something different for you to try. I sometimes put nuts in my oatmeal for breakfast. Does it really hurt to skip breakfast? IMHO I would say yes.... at some point. The smoothie could/would count as part of it... maybe add some protein or something in between breakfast and lunch... I never want breakfast first thing in the a.m. (maybe a carry over from pregnancy LOL) but by 9-10 a.m. I am rooting for it...
Guest guest
> I'm reading not to skip breakfast, but I just don't want it. Are you diabetic? Then it's important you *do* eat something in the morning upon awakening. After 8 to 12 hours with no fuel, the sugar is close to the lowest point of the day (middle of the night, around 3am, is lowest) and needs that energy boost to get the say started. If you wake up and feel very sluggish, skip the coffee and grab some whole grain toast, or that yogurt, even though at 220 calories that's an entire meal right there. That's good advice for everyone, not just diabetics, though. But I know that *many* people just can't stomach food when they first get up. My son & husband are like that. Hubby can go without eating until lunch, Henry can survive on one meal a day at dinnertime. Both are normal weight, BTW, and even at their heaviest, never dieted. Many eating disorder specialists, like the authors of the Overcoming Overeating books, Jane Hirschmann and Carol Munter, and Geneen Roth, all advocates of normalizing our eating by basing it on our hunger, and say not to force yourself to eat when you're not hungry, that following these arbitrary food rules is what put us in this shape in the first place. They feel we need to learn to trust our bodies again, just like babies do. Eat when hungry, stop when satisfied (but not past full or stuffed). If that meals skipping breakfast, so be it. Guest guest
Uhhh ... I have a problem. I'm getting to the point where I no longer want breakfast. I'm reading not to skip breakfast, but I just don't want it. Today I'm having one of the Yoplait smoothies (220 calories) for breakfast, and two cups of coffee. Does it really hurt to skip breakfast?Sapphyre, I am right the opposite. I must have breakfast. If I don't have breakfast I would be so weak and starved by lunch I would eat a horse. It don't matter what I eat for breakfast as long as I eat. Some mornings I have a big breakfast complete with eggs, biscuits and sausage and other mornings breakfast may be as small as 2 boiled eggs or a piece of toast. I have even had non breakfast items such as leftover meatloaf or leftover pizza. (not often) But my lunch is the meal that I sometimes scrimp on.But in general I always eat 3 meals a day. It can be small meals but my body totals yells at me when I "miss" meals. As far as does it really hurt to skip breakfast? Most people say yes some disagrees. Once again this may be one of those things that you just have to see if it is right for you. Just be careful if you don't have breakfast that you don't do like me and be so hungry come lunch that you "overeat" to make up for that missed breakfast.Because I know when I skip I will totally stuff at lunch. However my mother-in-law went for 25 years or so and never ate supper. Maybe it is all in how your body adjusts to what you do.
Guest guest
I am so with you on this one. I just cannot handle breakfast, even though I know its a nono. I can only do coffee in the A.M. I've just switched to decaf/nonfat to be healthier. Then I have "breakfast" mid morning around 10:30 a.m. Totally commiserating with you here. -Jax Sapphyre wrote: Uhhh ... I have a problem. Guest guest
Yes, it hurts to skip breakfast - or at least, doesn't help. You need nutrition to restart the metabolism to help the weight loss. It also helps balance the blood sugar out. Hugs, ~Angel On Wed, 31 May 2006, wrote: > > > Uhhh ... I have a problem. I'm getting to the point where I no longer > want breakfast. A long time ago, before I took over as owner, members of this list used to post their daily menus every day. You use whatever tools you need.
