Guest guest
I've heard there are some deductions, that you can " deduct " for taxes, some such as milage to and from therapy's, also food expenses - for our children who are on the GCFC diets' which we all know can be pricey. First off is anyone familiar with these type of tax deductions, and second of all if you are - do you use an accountant, or tax preparer to do this? Thanks! Guest guest
The tax deductions that are generally availible are those outlined in the IRS materials on deductible medical expenses which is availible on IRS.gov. The expenses that are allowed to be deducted are more generous than those covered by insurance. For example, mileage, tolls, parking, etc. are deductible. In general, if something is specifically required by a Doctor or Psycologist, it can be deducted. An example of this is ABA therapy performed by ABA therapists. If your child is diagnosed with autism and ABA is recomended as a therapy, it should be OK. You need to read the IRS materials as they do a good job of explaining this. Please note that medical deductions must exceed a percentage of your income before they can be deducted. Also, you must itemize to deduct these items. One last word is to make sure you have written support for what you deduct and keep this in case of audit. By the way, I use Turbotax. I hope this helps. *** ANY TAX ADVICE IN THIS COMMUNICATION IS NOT INTENDED OR WRITTEN BY KPMG TO BE USED, AND CANNOT BE USED, BY A CLIENT OR ANY OTHER PERSON OR ENTITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF (i) AVOIDING PENALTIES THAT MAY BE IMPOSED ON ANY TAXPAYER OR (ii) PROMOTING, MARKETING OR RECOMMENDING TO ANOTHER PARTY ANY MATTERS ADDRESSED HEREIN. *** Any advice in this communication is limited to the conclusions specifically set forth herein and is based on the completeness and accuracy of the stated facts, assumptions and/or representations included.
