Guest guest
Ooops, just read something now....so a correction is necessary to something I wrote below: Mercola says that progesterone bioHRT facilitates thyroid hormone action, and estrogen bioHRT interferes with thyroid hormone. Apologies for the error. Kathy Lapp > > Hi, > I have a question about my recent (new!) very high blood pressure > episodes. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I just finished reading Iodine, Why You Need It, and in that book Dr Brownstein does make comments about people needing less thyroid medication after being on Ioderol for awhile. I also read a comment somewhere that if you are heavier, your need for iodine might be greater, so with the weight loss, it is possible that you don't need as much. If it were me, I'd probably take a day or two off of all supplements and then start back up slowly. In the Iodine book, people who quit taking iodine start feeling badly again after a week or so. Maybe you just need adjustments in dosing for your meds, both because of how long you've been supplementing plus with your weight loss. I've been dealing with higher blood pressure during pregnancy and here are my tricks: Drink 8-12 ounces of clean water (not tap water), lie down on my left side, concentrate on relaxing and taking long deep slow breaths. I personally also use Young Living Essential Oils and have a few of those that I use to help manage the blood pressure. Maybe it's time that you do another loading test to see where you are at. Guest guest
The testosterone can definitely affect the bp. If you're using an electronic wrist or arm cuff, be sure to have your legs and ankles uncrossed when you take the bp; also have the cuff chest level. If you're using a wrist cuff, bend the arm at the elbow up to your chest while the machine is tightening--and be very still. Those units are extremely sensitive. Could some of the high bp be due to stress and the holidays? For quick relief and bringing down the bp, fresh garlic will do it combined with hawthorne berries that can be found in a bottle at a health food store. Eating the fresh garlic and taking the hawthorne berry caps may have to be repeated in several hours. Good luck. Vj From: kathrynlapp <kalapp@...>Subject: iodine Saturation or just high blood pressure?iodine Date: Sunday, December 28, 2008, 12:08 AM Hi, I have a question about my recent (new!) very high blood pressure episodes. My blood pressure used to be normal, in the mid-130's, but now in the last few days or possibly a week, it keeps spiking up to 185!! I get very dizzy and very frightened when that happens. It feels like I can't keep my balance. This happened again tonight. When I turn over in bed at night, it feels like the room is spinning. I would appreciate any input you all could offer me.At first when I felt dizzy a few days ago, I was really confused, not knowing if it was high or low blood pressure (I get dizzy from either cause). So I finally took my blood pressure tonight with my new little machine and found out it was quite high. (I am not drinking coffee, or taking any other things that might cause high blood pressure - no DHEA, no licorice, etc.)I didn't want to go to the emergency room tonight unless my blood pressure hit 200, because I didn't want to have any anti-thyroid drugs.I did some googling, and found out what I could do at home to help the scary symptoms: take more magnesium (ES), potassium, water, and (believe it or not) take Lugol's to help with higher blood pressure (found on a doctor web site!). So I did all these things tonight. My blood pressure is still high, but I don't feel dizzy or scared now.Causes: I'm wondering if my thyroid dose is too high (60 mg + 45 mg dessicated thyroid "time release" per day). I lost 43 pounds this year (not from iodine though!). Could the large weight loss have caused me to need less thyroid, hence the high blood pressure? Background: I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos's. I have been on lots of Iodoral for 13 months now. Most of that time, I was at 50 mg or more; the last 8 months has been 100 mg or more. I felt wonderful, terrific all the time on iodine, & just love it. The last three months I have been taking progesterone bioHRT with no problems, and recently added in testosterone bioHRT(2 mg) and estrogen bioHRT (1.25 mg).I learned today while googling that estrogen can make thyroid more "active" somehow, so perhaps when I added that in, it magnified the way thyroid acts in my body?Last Nov., I was tested iodine deficient at 62% saturation. In Feb., after 3 months at 50 mg daily, I tested 58% saturation. Therefore Dr. Flechas confirmed that I had the symporter problem. So I added in all the necessary co-factors (B2 & B3, Vit. C, selenium, magnesium, sea salt, etc.). Between the weight loss and the high iodine use, could I have suddenly reached saturation, and now need less thyroid? I will be seeing my holistic doctor ASAP, and will be getting a blood test to get some objective answers. And I am getting ready to do another iodine laoding test.I am very interested in hearing about the experiences of others when they have reached saturation. Do you think that this recent high blood pressure and dizziness of mine is real iodine saturation, or just plain high blood pressure? In any case, I will reduce my thyroid dosage starting tomorrow. I am stopping the testosterone & estrogen completely for now, but continuing the progesterone.Any comments would be appreciated!Thank you for this wonderful resource site!Kathy Lapp in Calgary
