Guest guest
I totally agree that we need to make our own shirts. I refuse to contribute a dime towards anyplace that allows such hateful things to be spread. Just out of curiousity, I searched their site for the N word...guess what??? No matches found....hmmmmmmm Any suggestions on a slogan? Sue mom to Kate 19 and Karrie 12 w/ds and mild autism ---- Kiersten <kiersten5560@...> wrote: > > I checked out the site after reading this. I guess that I am not surprised. They are selling what sells. I put in many different types of searches and there are fewer options for positive T-shirt slogans than negative. People are buying the negative attitude toward most things. I think this is just a sad look at what our young people and ignorant masses like to parade around on their ugly shirts. > > Seriously, I think if I want a shirt, I will have it made or make it myself. The negative attitude of MOST things is all over the place. Watch the cartoons or shows. Nasty attitudes, mouthy, slamming and dissing friends. It is enough to make me get physically ill. > > I am sorry you were upset. I really think our DS support groups, moms and families, etc. need to make our own stuff and not support these larger venues that really do not care WHAT they sell, as long as there is a market for it. > > Hang in there. Guest guest
If you look around cafepress they also have shirts such as I love someone with Down Syndrome or My child has one extra chromosome more to love etc. They are not all bad. But yes there is some trash on that site. Kathy The R word I thought I'd buy a shirt to promote awareness against the use of the R word. I'd heard that Cafe Press was a good place to find such a shirt. I went to their website and entered the word " retard " into their search of site, thinking I'd get more choices of shirts. What I found was such an outrageous spewing of hatred that I actually cried. I like to think I'm pretty tough-skinned and have heard most of the hateful things people say about people with Down syndrome and with mental retardation. This site was the lowest I've ever seen. I know that they have the right to sell whatever shirts, etc., with whatever sayings they choose. And I have the right to not visit this site ever again. However, as a society, when are we going to stop with the hatred and predjudice? I am sick over this. I emailed them with just how sick their site made me, with all the hatred that they are promoting through their choice of products. Am I the only one who sees this as a problem? Of course I know my daughter has mental retardation. But this whole issue makes me almost afraid for the future of our society. Guest guest
I had bought a T-shirt for my son at a conference that he just finally wore out - it said What's an extra chromosome between friends! and had a couple smiling chromosomes on it . I am hoping to find another one at the MDSC this weekend - Mom to 22, 19, 11 DS, and 8 In a message dated 3/14/2009 1:13:56 P.M.
