Transition to Armour

Hi all

I'm curious about transitioning from straight T4 to Armour and how

those of you who've done it have done it.

My situation is this; total thyroidectomy 20 years ago due to cancer.

Been on T4 only since then.

Diagnosed with CFS 5 years ago; severe enough to make me unable to

work or do much of anything that requires energy.

At the moment I'm on 225mcg T4 daily. My last TSH in May was 0.01

(reference range is 0.5 - 5.5 I think), and I'm awaiting the results

of a urine T3/T4 test from Genova.

When I first became ill, after treating for adrenal fatigue (as

diagnosed by saliva testing) with DHEA, I tried Armour + T4 combo. I

did this under the care of a very sympathetic doctor who was familiar

with the work of Dr P and others in the field.

However, although I had some success for a short while and experienced

total relief of fatigue for about a week, the benefits soon went and

no matter how I manipulated the doses, I couldnt get it to work out so

I went back to straight T4.

Looking back on my notes, I see that I never went above 1.5 grains

armour, and I never took Armour alone. It was always with T4.

Anyway, having found this forum and read about common mistakes that

patients make with Armour, I realise that I made quite a few of those

mistakes, so I want to give Armour another try.

I've been taking DHEA & HC for adrenal support for 6 weeks and it is

definitely helping.

Given that Armour is a T3/T4 combo, I'm assuming its better to start

with 1 grain on its own and work upwards over a period of time, rather

than trying to replace my current dose of T4 from Day 1.

Is this the kind of thing that I should wait to do after I've

consulted with Dr P? I know it would probably be more prudent to do

so, I'm a bit impatient to get started :)

thanks in advance
