There is no published evidence to answer this reliably. In my opinion,

there is a risk that at least some of the active hormone escapes your

tongue and ends up being swallowed. For that portion, food could still

interfere. Just in case, you should still avoid food.

The fundamental question is, how much escapes. Some people who use this

technique, tell me they keep it all under the tongue until it is fully

absorbed. I think they are fooling themselves and just can't tell that

any escapes.

Hi Chuck

/

,

It's

best not to take Armour with food, because Armour contains all the thyroid

hormones, some good with food, others to be avoided like the plague. However,

so long as you do not take Armour sublingually WHILST eating your food, it

appears to work fine for those taking it sublingually before a meal or after a

meal. This is convenient for those working to a schedule where they cannot wait

for an hour before eating breakfast. I highly recommend taking Armour

sublingually from personal experience. It works better because it has

real biological benefits that swallowing does not. First, it's direct and it's

immediately absorbed into the blood stream through the tiny capillaries lining

the mouth. The thyroid hormones bypass the stomach's acidic destroying gastric

action where you can lose some of the thyroid ingredients, as well as bypassing

the metabolising action in the liver. Second, because the thyroid hormones are

absorbed more directly into the blood stream, some of us who previously swallowed

Armour and then decided to take it sublingually found we needed less Armour

than before. Third, it is better to take Armour sublingually since iron,

calcium and oestrogen bind thyroid hormones and the sublingual route avoids

contact with them. However, there are many who do swallow Armour and get

benefits but they must avoid swallowing calcium, iron and oestrogen at the same

time since all will bind some of the thyroid hormones as they mix in the stomach.

Chuck,

You

say that in your opinion, there is a " risk " that at least some of the

active hormone ends up being swallowed. Yet in your previous message to Sioban

and myself, you said T3 can be taken with food. So why then does it matter

whether a little of the " active hormone " (assuming you are meaning T3

and not T4) escapes the tongue? Again, as thyroxine (T4) should not be taken

anywhere near food, it is better to take Armour sublingually where it is

absorbed directly into the blood.

As

for your remark re " fooling themselves " , all I can say is that had

you ever taken Armour thyroid yourself, you would not have made such a comment…the

taste buds on your very sensitive tongue let you know - Yuck!

For

me personally, I place my Armour right under the top of my lip above my teeth

where it sits for approximately 30/40 minutes before it disappears completely -

and I will continue to recommend my members take their Armour sublingually for

the above reasons.

Hi Sheila

I am going to take it subingually, I would rather it by passed the stomach anyway, I dont know if I still have candida and have recently been tested for a stomach bacteria that causes ulcers, have no results as yet, so I would rather the armour didnt go via the stomach, it makes sense for it to go straight into the blood stream and get to work that way. So how long do I wait after taking the armour before I can eat?

I have noticed much better energy since taking all my armour by swallowing with water first thing & then not eating or drinking other than water for at least an hour. Before this I always took it sublingually, but I will say that first thing in the morning I did not notice the taste that much, but if I took any later in the day - Yuk. I think when I took it sublingually I was not that careful not to eat for an hour.
