Guest guest
Look up copper deficiency in bariatric surgery. It's associated with zinc deficiency and immune function- maybe serum proteins, too? Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Zinc Deficiency I have a 30 year post op jejunal intestinal bypass patient with major malabsorption issues. He weighed 400# 30 years ago prior to the surgery and maintaine his wt at 190# with no real problemsHe is now on dialysis for 6 years and i have been working with him for 4 years. He seems to have declined in the past year and can't seem to get his albumin above 2.0. He has been on IDPN for 8months receiving 112 grams protein per treatment with extra MVI and trace elements added yet he continues to be deficient in Zinc, magnesium. He has had times when he had night blindness and was supplemented with IV VIt A. He currently takes TWO Diatx ZN oral vitamins as well so his folate is great. He is receiving 25 mg zinc oxide in each tablet and 5 mcg folic acid.. He also gets 5 mg zinc in his IDPN. He eats greater than 3500calories and 150 grams of protein in his diet but prealbumin is now at 18 as well. His alkaline phosphatase is very elevated so we drew a fractionated alkaline phosphatase to determine if it is bone turnover or if it is liver. BOTH bone isoenzyme and liver isoenzyme were elevated but liver isoenyme was at 435 (reference range is 13-92) I was wondering if any of you have had experience with this type of patient and if you have had the hypoalbuminemia such as this? Do any of you have any suggestions for any further interventions? on, RD, LD Renal Dietitian Houston, TX charrisonrd@... netters56 <J@...> wrote: We are getting ready to start the Lap Bands at our hospital and I am looking for Post-op Diet Guidelines & Vitamin/Mineral recommendations that I can provide to our patients. Guest guest
Have any of you ever experienced this? I did a search on white spots on fingernails and it said it could be related to to Zinc Deficiency. I also read that allergies could increase under this influence. Is Zinc a good supplement for Type O's?
Guest guest
Zinc is a good supplement if you are deficient and need some. Things to watch for is not taking too high a dose or taking it for an extended length of time. On Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 9:07 AM, Debra <mermaideeee@...> wrote: > Have any of you ever experienced this? Guest guest
Did you test your copper? If copper is high it pulls down the zinc. Steph zinc deficiency Hello,I took the zinc test and flunked it, then did some research here and learned that selenium knocks out zinc. A few years ago, I took selenium, without iodine, because I had read it is good for your heart. I eat grass fed beef on a regular basis, as well as lamb. How can I be zinc deficient and how will a supplement help me? Do I need to megadose?I am unclear if this is OT. I hope not.I'm taking New Chapters zinc and 2mg copper. Thanks,Joan
Guest guest
No. I did the home test for zinc. I know about the high copper but since I had taken selenium before I thought it could be the cause. Is there a home test for copper? Joan > > Did you test your copper? Guest guest
If you just have a copper IUD you can get a loooottt of copper that way. Your body absorbs it from the copper wire. Guest guest
Do you have a link to " selenium knocks out zinc " ? That is very interesting. I am always afraid of taking too much of a supplement for fear I will be creating an imbalance. I too eat a good amount of beef which is suppose to be high in zinc and I also failed the zinc test. I do feel that when I take zinc it does help me. I use zinc picolinate, btw, which is easy on the stomach and seems to easily absorbed. > > Hello, > > I took the zinc test and flunked it, then did some research here and learned that selenium knocks out zinc. Guest guest
I can rule that one out. We had copper pipes put in our townhouse when we lived in VA. We lived just over a year with them before we moved. Joan > > > > > > Did you test your copper? Guest guest
This is what I found in the archives when I looked up zinc and selenium. I think someone mentioned it recently, otherwise I wouldn't know to make the correlation. iodine/message/33447 http://www.lements.com/Selenium%20Wheels.pdf Joan > > > > Hello, > > > > I took the zinc test and flunked it, then did some research here and learned that selenium knocks out zinc.
