Guest guest
We just had an eval done by Dr. Cara Marker at Inner Health Ministries and they did the Stanford-Binet on our three year old. I was very happy with them. The # is 216-252-1399. What about your LEA for pre-school? My son goes to pre-school at Shupe in Amherst and they have peer models in his classroom. If you are able to access Autism Scholarship $$, you could try Spectrum Consulting. They are located in Lorain. They are one of the providers on the scholarship list. ----- Original Message ----From: TM McKenna <tmmckenna@...> Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:03:01 PMSubject: [ ] Intelligence Testing; Preschools Two separate inquiries: 1. Can anyone recommend someone to do a complete (and fair) intelligence assessment on a 4 year old autistic child? 2. Does anyone know of any preschools on the west side (reasonably close to Avon) that will accept and work with an autistic child with a tutor (for purposes of normal peer interaction) . We're wait listed at Middleburg (MEEC) and Bay Presbyterian. Thanks. Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Autos. Guest guest
If you are going to do an IQ test, be sure to do a non-verbal IQ test! And if the pysch says the IQ test he/she will use has verbal and performance subscores (such as the WISC-III), point out that sometimes, performance tests evaluate just that - the child's fine motor skill performance. That's what we saw with my son. But a non-verbal IQ test for a 4 year old? That's a hard one: There's the Arthur Point Scale of Performance, Form I - used to supplement the highly verbal Binet test, good for individuals with language and speech issues. There's the Columbia Mental Maturity Scale - ages 3 1/2 to 10 y.o. - where the child picks out what doesn't belong. And there's the Hiskey-Nebraska Test of Learning Aptitude - designed for children with deafness and speech/language disabilities - with 12 subtests, some seem to be performance based. I have no experience with these tests - we used the TONI - but goes down to age 6 at the lowest. Guest guest
You may want to try Kiddie Kollege in Avon. A friend of mine had her son in their pre-K program last year with a tutor. She was extremely pleased with their program, acceptance of him and the impact it had on his socialization. She did have an awesome tutor with him which is a must in any preschool inclusion situation.
