Dear Friend of ASO:

There are two issues pending at the Federal level that affect persons with autism and their families - and we need your help!

Urge your Senators to sign onto the Combating Autism Act Funding Letter

Senators Dodd (D-CT) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE) are circulating a Congressional "sign-on" letter asking the Appropriations Committee to increase funding for autism related activities at the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Health Resource and Services Administration. This letter is similar to one circulated by the House Coalition for Autism Research and Education (CARE) earlier this year.

ASA is urging ALL United States Senators to show their support for autism by signing this important letter. To view the " sign on" letter in its entirety and to send a letter urging your senators to support funding the Combatting Autism Act, visit:

Urge Your Congressman to Support HR 1881

On April 17th, Congressmen Mike Doyle, , Eliot Engel, and Chip Pickering introduced the Expanding the Promise for Individuals with Autism Act of 2007. This critical legislation provides approximately $350 million to improve access to comprehensive treatments, interventions, and services for individuals with autism and their families.

The proposed legislation aims to:

For the first time, convene a national task force to evaluate and report on evidence-based biomedical and behavioral treatments and services; Establish State-based demonstration grant programs to provide evidence-based autism treatments, interventions, and services for children and adults; Provide funding to protection and advocacy systems to address the needs of individuals with autism and other emerging populations of individuals with disabilities; Fund expanded access to coordinated multi-agency treatments, interventions, and services to children; and Provide supplemental grants for training and technical assistance to service providers and educators and to establish a national center on autism services information.

Please urge your Member of Congress to cosponsor this legislation. To send a letter urging your Representative to support funding the Expanding the Promise for Individuals with Autism Act of 2007, visit:
