Guest guest
Cool. That's great to know. I hate to type an introductory message to a defunct group. LOL! Well, I am new to all of this. I am not new to Metabolic Typing, high protein diet, etc. but I ran into this by doing lots of research. For a long time, I have suffered with fatigue. I thought it might be to some other issues (female) that are no longer a problem. I was anemic for a while. But after all of that cleared up, I still had days where I needed to take 1-2 naps a day. Some days I could barely keep my eyes open. I never woke up refreshed. I would occasionally have a good day. I did all the lab tests and they came back normal. I really started to feel that it was food related. So I started experimenting to see if I could figure out the answer. I thought maybe it was the sugar. I am a fast oxidizer but I am not overweight and exercise 3-5 times a week. I did cut out the carbs and felt much better, but I could not believe that I could be that carb sensitive. For a long time, I have eaten a high protein diet. I couldn't believe that even a little bit of carbs would make so tired. So I read and read and researched some more. I started reading about food allergies and wondered if that was the problem. So I cut out yeast and started to feel better. The need for naps went away. Then I got the Blood Type book and read that wheat is not a good choice at all for Type O's. So now I am beginning to think it may be the wheat instead of yeast. After reading the Blood Type book I read the Genotype book and it appears I am an Explorer. So I am hoping to get some light shed by joining this group with several questions if you don't mind. 1. Does anyone else experience this need to nap? Were you ever able to pinpoint the cause? 2. How long does it take for wheat or allergy symptoms to show up? For instance, I had three dumplings last night at a Sushi restaurant? My energy is down today. Is it the wheat or the wine? Could just three little dumplings cause that much fatigue? I also had some rice. I usually don't eat a meal mainly of carbs but ever now and then due to circumstances, I can't help it. I have many other questions but will keep it two those now. I am really excited about getting to the bottom of this. Hope to read your success stories as well. Guest guest
Debra, I'm new to the group too, but several years ago I followed ER4YT and I was amazed at how good I felt. At that time I was tired, cranky and my back was always hurting. When I followed it all those problems went away. I'm not sure what happened, but I stopped doing it and moved on to something else ) Here I am about 4 years later and I am constantly tired. I can sleep 7-8 hours and wake up after having coffee and could go back to bed. I also take at least one nap a day. My periods are also messed up. I have been to my doctor for the last two months and they keep giving me more prescriptions. I don't like taking pills especially if they are not working. So I got out my books again and joined here in hope of getting these things taken care of with out medication. I'm ready to see what happens. diana > > > Hello. Guest guest
#1 & #2 In very general terms, tiredness/fatigue is your body talking to you. Obviously it is not happy. Reactions can vary greatly depending on many factors but yes it can be very immediate and very intense. I've known many people who's body starts reacting in 1 or 2 bites. Finding the cause is a process of elimination because it can vary from person to person. So you need to learn (which you seem to be doing a good job of) and pay attention to what your body is trying to tell you. Also, it is very possible that you have a yeast/candida problem along with carb sensitivity. The O type diet is very much an anti-candida diet but doing some supplement treatment may give better results. There are lots of good candida treatment formulas at good health food stores. And, most essential is lots of good probiotics. You will know things are working better when you don't have such strong reactions to minor straying from your proper diet. Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Debra. You might also be interested in the genotype group Genotype_Diet. In my experience, if I eat something bad for me one evening, I'll be sick the next day. It sounds like you had enough carbs to cause a reaction. Guest guest
thanks Kathy. I thought maybe it was CY but?a nutritionist tested me and said I didn't show any abnormal patterns there. In fact, I wanted to be tested for food allergies and he talked me into some sort of digestive test that cost $500. The results were telling me that I have a hard time processing certain carbs. He said if I did an allergy test, I might test positive for so many foods and these foods may not even be the culprit. BUT after reading ER4YT I am highly suspect of wheat. Wish I knew for sure but I am unemployed and can't spend the money right now on anymore testing. I was feeling sluggish this morning but took a nap and am feeling better. I did have several tortilla chips with one margarita last night. Have any of you been able to tolerate corn chips. But feeling better today than I did after the dumplings the night before. Guest guest
I don't find it hard to get full without carbs, but I lose weight like crazy. The problem for me is not losing too much weight. Blood type O and Explorer are similar in some ways and very different in some ways. Before I read Genotype, I got Dr. D'Adamo's little books on allergies and aging. The food lists for special purposes like those are a little different from the regular (non secretor for me) lists. It turns out the allergy list I was using was a little closer to explorer than the regular list which I found interesting. Yes there are other explorers and some gatherers. I don't think we've heard from any hunters. Where are the hunters? ________________________________ From: " mermaideeee@... Guest guest
Everything that isn't meat is carbohydrate. Sweet Potatoes, peas , beans etc. Some carbs include protein, fats and fiber as well. We think of carbs as pie, candy, cake, white potatoes, flour, but that isn't all inclusive. I like to eat a high fiber diet, that is what I find is most satisfying. Foods high in fiber, are raw vegetables, beans and some cereals, there are others. It is well to invest in a nutrition book that breaks these things down for you. Guest guest
I find that 9 times out of 10 the foods you are allergic to will be O avoids, so don't worry about spending on tests. Eliminate all the big avoids - corn, wheat, white potatoes and dairy - See how you respond. As you strengthen with the biggies out of the way you can then fine tune your effects from other foods. You just have to resign yourself to the fact that you should never eat those 4 foods as a regular part of your diet, ever again. Another caution, corn is everywhere! You need to avoid all the corn byproducts also. If you eliminate those big avoids, eat good O stuff and drink your water and within 2 weeks you should be feeling like a new person. Can you tell me what the digestive test was? On Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 2:28 PM, <mermaideeee@...> wrote: > thanks Kathy. Guest guest
Yeah, that's a good point about it being free! Did you have to eliminate all dairy? Or do you still have dairy? I know the book said eggs 3-4 a week. The test was 0091 Organix Comprehensive Profile. I saw abnormal results which indicated ketosis, glucose oxidation, renal ammonia loading, impaired valine metabolism, receptor antagonist and intestinal bacterial overgrowth. There was no abnormality found with yeast. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of s Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2008 6:08 PM Subject: Re: is this group active? You just have to resign yourself to the fact that you should never eat those 4 foods as a regular part of your diet, ever again. Another caution, corn is everywhere! You need to avoid all the corn byproducts also. If you eliminate those big avoids, eat good O stuff and drink your water and within 2 weeks you should be feeling like a new person. I get super tired but have never been able to nap in the daytime. Just get super-tired instead. Do you know your glucose levels and how they respond to foods? If your blood sugar goes up, that causes sleepiness. Notes on that: Normal is below 100 at all times. Safe from damage is below 110 at all times. But American Diabetes assoc only is interested if it is consistently over 126. IMO - that's WAY too late to take action as you get damage from 110 up. Mine was 190 for years before I knew. VERY bad as the damage shows up LATER - not at the time of the bad sugar levels. Two years after I got mine under control, the peripheral neuropathy damage showed up in my feet and lower legs. > 2. How long does it take for wheat or allergy symptoms to show up? They are insidious. I have finally (the past several months) avoided wheat completely, and NOW I see what I had missed before....that there was a lot of edema and other nonsense and SEVERE lack of enthusiasm, close to clinical depression as I was so sluggish next day -...... that I did not need to have and these symptoms are now gone. BUT - I find I am even MORE sensitive now to the odd bit of wheat I get by mistake, than was the case when I ate it regularly. Perhaps my body quit adapting to it as its personal junkfood. Now if I have the very least bit of wheat accidentally in something, I get like shooting pains all over my insides for a day or so. Most unpleasant. A very effective reminder to be more caereful! The tendency to depression (I had to have all kinds of strategies and " rules " to get past it) and lassitude and lack of enthusiasm is gone now. > For > instance, I had three dumplings last night at a Sushi restaurant? > My energy > is down today. It helps to eat the protein first, always, and to incloude good fat like extra virgin olive oil. Namaste, Irene -- Irene de Villiers, B.Sc AASCA MCSSA D.I.Hom/D.Vet.Hom. P.O. Wheat response (might be bad right away as well but) always is bad the NEXT day, so you start out feeling low and unenthusiastic, and awful. > Those of you that have eliminated wheat, do you find it hard to get > full without carbs? What other carbs do you? use? I try to eat high protein. My fillers are wild rice, artichokes, rice snaps (some of which make cardboard taste good and others of which are very yummy - so find YOUR favorites) and such. and lots of green veg. And I cheat and use cheese with rice snaps. Also I sometimes fill on things like nuts and my own " trail mix " (depends on budget) that I assemble from whatever takes my fancy in the bulk section. Millet works for me too (mixed with rice or separately), and omelette/ egg things. A nice mix of high color veg filled out with rice is a backstop. I'm very much into spices and herbs to make food interesting. Namaste, Irene -- Irene de Villiers, B.Sc AASCA MCSSA D.I.Hom/D.Vet.Hom. P.O. A large percentage of the diet's calories SHOULD come from beneficial fatty acids like Extra virgin olive oil and fish oil. So I see the following categories: Animal Protein - good Plant protein - bad Unsaturated Fat - good except for seed oils (Extra virgin olive oil best = EVOO) Saturated fat - eat minimally and always with EVOO added trans fat - do not eat * Starchy food - avoid * High- antioxidant food - eat as much as possible * Artificial food - do not eat * Fresh fruit - eat right before exercise if weight is an issue. Items with * are carbohydrate. > Sweet Potatoes, peas , beans etc. Some carbs include protein, fats > and fiber as well. That is not a fair statement. Food is divided into Protein, Carbs and Fat and Water. No category is not part of any other category. Carbs is short for carbohydrates and that refers ONLY to sugars and starches and fibers, not to fats or protein. I think what you mean is that some foods contain all the components. So turkey dressing for example has protein (if you use meat in it as I do), carbs (if you use rice as I do) and fat (if you use EVOO as I do), and water (which all foods have). > We think of carbs as pie, candy, cake, white potatoes, flour, but > that isn't all inclusive. Those are HIGH-carb foods, but they do not contain only carbs. Pie for example may have pie crust with a lot of fat in it. > I like to eat a high fiber diet, that is what I find is most > satisfying.
