Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this group and have a question. How do you stay on the diet over Thanksgiving? No dressing, no gravy, no mashed potatoes, no fruit salad with coconut and sour cream, and, worst of all, no pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Any and all advice and hints will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Maureen
Guest guest
I make a stuffing of brown rice with seasoning, celery, onion etc.... And everyone likes it. Sweet potato instead of white ones. The fruit salad (make with fresh O type fruits) and the pumpkin pie are only partially bad. A spoonfull of sour cream or whipped cream are not going to ruin your life. Do just small servings of the bad things. Some other thoughts --- maybe it's time to adjust tradition. Do we really need our day of Thanksgiving to be a day of gorging and gluttony? Guest guest
Well.....Turkey and sweet potatoes are both highly beneficial. Make yourself a fruit salad from highly beneficial fruits. There should be someone on the site who can tell us about a nice dressing for the fruit salad. As far as dressing goes, I take a small tablespoon for my cheat. Sweet potatoe pie is about as good as pumpkin pie and I just don't eat the crust. You could also try making a dressing using Ezekial bread. I've never tried it but I'm sure it could be done. Also, the cook right for your type book has some nice recipes that you might start a new tradition with. Happy Thanksgiving. Guest guest
I have done really well over Thanksgiving for several years. I eat turkey, gravy (thickened with an OK thickener), sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce (sweetened with an OK sweetener), green vegetable. I skip the dressing, white potatoes, bread, and dessert. I get plenty to eat, feel full but not stuffed, don't feel deprived, and feel good the next day. It helps that I do the cooking so I can make adjustments. I am an explorer genotype, which expands my choices. So using genotype instead of blood type, I can make and eat stuffing using spelt bread and have spelt rolls. This year I found some frozen organic spelt pie crusts which I will use to make pumpkin and pecan pies. So I should be OK with a little stuffing, a little pie, maybe a roll. I do OK with some spelt, but I need to be careful not to eat too much. I will probably avoid spelt for 2 or 3 days before Thanksgiving. That way I'm more likely to do OK with it on that day. I may cheat with a little whipped cream sweetened with agave. Eating avoid dairy products doesn't seem to bother me as much as the avoid grains and sweets. ________________________________ From: Maureen Moulden <bluequilter1@...> Sent: Saturday, November 22, 2008 1:31:00 PM Subject: Stayin' on the diet Hi, I'm new to this group and have a question. Can you tell me what you can eat that u couldn't eat on Blood Type O diet? Thanks Debra Stayin' on the diet Hi,? I'm new to this group and have?a question. Guest guest
Do you have the genotype book? Are you familiar with Typebase4 on http://www.dadamo.com? You can compare the food lists for genotype in the book to the lists for blood type in Typebase4. Spelt is an important difference because it substitutes well for wheat. Explorer allows mozzarella, ricotta, swiss, cream cheeses; whey; apples; agave; honey; maple syrup; molasses. But some O beneficials are explorer toxins. Like prunes, plums, figs, mangoes, cherries, blueberries, bananas, spinach, avocado, pumpkin seeds, walnuts. There are others. I'm still experimenting with eating foods that are good in either system, even though they may be bad in the other system. I am going to make a list of foods and prioritize them from beneficial/superfood in both systems down to avoid in both systems. I'll have an O nonsecretor/Explorer list which I can then individualize as necessary. ________________________________ From: " mermaideeee@... My plan: Today (my birthday) I went with a friend to a restaurant I like because I know they will adjust stuff for me and that they have enough variety to put something good together. Okay - so tonight was my test for Thanksgiving:-) There's no law that says to eat turkey at thanksgiving. I eat it too often anyway. So my plan is to repeat what I had tonight: Salmon and shrimp, on a bed of rice and multiple yummy stir-fried veggies, plus a side salad - it was truly delicious. Partly the dipping sauce was superb, not the usual tartar that kills me, but a savory almost sweet dark sauce. I did not even ask what was in it! Taking a chance but many hrs later I am here and happy:-) This I followed by pineapple-cheesecake - dunno how compliant that is, but heck I was celebrating. It did me no noticeable harm, unlike any wheat - I was sure to avoid the wheat as it always " kills " me. However, if turkey is your thing: Make the gravy with non-wheat, maybe a mix of rice bran and sweet potato to thicken it, or other appropriate thickener. Flaked dried black beans can also thicken stuff, also artichoke flour if you can find any. Make the dressing but use rice (or wild rice) instead of bread and extra virgin olive oil instead of whatever fat you'd use. Just add extra spices along withy the rice. With rice, I use raisins, ginger, lemon, turmeric and a bit of extra-sharp cheddar cheese. I also use beef with generous coriander and oregano in the dressing. (I know the cheddar is dairy of the " wrong " kind but a little goes a long way and is no hassle for me I find, when all else is compliant.) Pumpkin is fine isn't it? ......can;t rememeber? If so, just make pie with a rice base crust (plus some mango chutney and small dash of curry for flavor) instead of wheat base. Guest guest
Happy birthday, Irene! Did the cheesecake not have graham cracker (wheat) crust? ________________________________ From: Irene de Villiers <furryboots@...> Sent: Monday, November 24, 2008 1:19:22 AM Subject: Re: Stayin' on the diet On Nov 22, 2008, at 1:31 PM, Maureen Moulden wrote: > Hi, I'm new to this group and have a question. > > How do you stay on the diet over Thanksgiving?
