At 2.75 grains I would really be surprised if you could get off of Armour by taking iodine. Yes it is a good thing for you but the normal thyroid puts out 3-5 grains so you are on almost full thyroid replacement. Do you have hashimotos (antibodies)?

You may be able to reduce it with the use of Selenium, Magnesium, Vit A, Vit C, Celtic Salt and the ATP CoFactors plus Iodine.

Iodine is used by all your glands and mucosal linings so if you are low they are affected.

Affect of Iodine on adrenals

Hello. I'm taking Armour (2.75 grains)for hypothyroid and also have symptoms of adrenal insufficiency. My ferritin was low (17) but with iron has come up to 55. My nurse practitioner has recommended I have my iodine level tested and supplement if necessary. She feels that I may be able to stop taking Armour eventually because the iodine will restore my thyroid function. I take nothing for the adrenals. I am posting to ask if anyone who has taken iodine experienced improvement in their adrenal function. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your post.

I don't know how to answer your ? about Hashis. My antibody lab test

results were confusing ( Thyroid Peroxidase: <10 ( range <35)

Thyroglobulin Antibodies: <20 ( range <20). My doctors have nothing

to say if labs come back in range except that I shouldn't worry about

it. I don't have the swings from hypo to hyper that are seen in Hashi

patients but only have the typical hypo symptoms. I keep a log every

day to note hyper symptoms if I were to have any and so far I don't.

I do this to counter my doctor's attempts to lower my Armour dose

since my blasted TSH is now 0.3. My last FT3 was just over the mid-

range and FT4 at the low end of the range. More importantly, my

fibromyalgia and plantar fascitis symptoms are barely controlled at

2.75 grains of Armour. I am not taking cortisol but plan to do the

saliva test for cortisol after the holidays. If my adrenal function

is low I may be able to reduce my Armour dose by taking cortisol.

My nurse practitioner has studied with Dr. Brownstein. I haven't read

his book yet but she says that he believes that the thyroid can be

healed with adequate iodine if the patient removes or drastically

reduces bromide in the body. This is interesting to me since my last

anion gap was 7 ( range 9-18).

I take all of the supplements on your list except ATP CoFactors with

iodine. What is that?
