Presenter: Dennis Debbaudt Safety is a huge concern for parents and family members of an individual with autism. This workshop is designed to identify issues of risk and provide strategies that help parents and caregivers manage these risks at home, school and in the community. It will also provide tools and options for developing partnerships with law enforcement, first responders, and criminal justice agencies. These issues and more will be addressed: Autism spectrum risk awareness & management, wandering, preparing for an autism emergency, safety in the home, safe travel, alerting neighbors, 911 data base alerts, developing a handout, sharing de-escalation techniques, working with the school district to upgrade safety and lower risk, school support network for spectrum students, safety and risk life skills education, working proactively with schools and law enforcement agencies. While he is in Toledo, the Autism Society has also arranged for Dennis to train law enforcement and first response professionals from the Toledo Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies at the TPD training facility at Owens Community College on Friday, May 4.
