“Bridges to Adulthood: Targeting Skills for the Next Environmentâ€

March 24, 2007 - 8:30am to 4pm

The workshop is sponsored by Families for Effective Autism Treatment of Greater Cincinnati and the Autism Society of Greater Cincinnati.

LOCATION

Drake Hospital Conference Center

151 West Galbraith Rd, Cincinnati, OH

A certificate of attendance will be provided to each attendee. Seating will be limited.

Increasing attention is being paid to needs of learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Where job placement was once considered desirable, now the goal is career development. Instead of residential placement, there is talk of residential choices in support of quality of life.

With EARLY, comprehensive planning, the challenges of transition from student to adult can be viewed as opportunities for growth filled with new and positive experiences. This workshop will provide an overview of this movement toward transition planning for competent adulthood. Support structures, social and life skills, and sexuality will also be addressed in young adults with ASD.

Dr. Gerhardt is President of the Organization for Autism Research, Dr. Gerhardt has over 25 years experience utilizing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis in support of adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders in educational, employment, and community based settings. He is the author or co-author of articles and book chapters on the needs of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, the school-to-work-transition process, assessment of social competence, and analysis and intervention of problematic behavior. He has presented nationally and internationally on these topics.

Dr. Gerhardt is an engaging speaker; and, many who have attended his presentations walk away having been enlightened and entertained.
