Guest guest
Hi All, Well you probably havnt seen me on this Group before - because silly me I had totally forgotten that I had joined - (ages ago I think...lol - bad memory). Anyway I'v had an Underactive Thyroid since the age of 5yrs old (am now 35). I am on 200mcg Thyroxine/day. I have a 9yr old son and my OH and I are trying to conceive #2! We have been trying for 3months and nothing yet. I have been rather ill at the beginning of the year from my thyroid probs. Anyway after more blood tests etc. the 1 GP said I should wait 6mths before I start trying - another 1 said a year - then the last one in June said there is no reason we can't start trying straight away - and that I'v got just as much chance as anyone else. I was very excited by this - but at the same time - I know that with Underactive Thyroid - comes fertility probs! I am very desperate for my 2nd baby and didn't want to have children after 35 (had Gastric Banding surgery nearly 2yrs ago - hence had to wait to lose weight). Anyway I'v read on other message boards on the net - that my Thyroid levels need to be right to conceive and that I may not even be ovulating!!!! Grrr.... my GP told me I have to wait a whole year of trying before getting tests done to see if I'm ovulating. Another person on Forum told me if you are 35+ you only have to wait 6mths before having tests to see if I'm ovulating! My major question is - I don't have time on my hands and I WANT to be referred to a Thyroid Specialist (Endocrinologist) - but my GP says no my thyroid is under control..... nope it isn't my levels were over 100 in January and I landed up having a seizure and righting my car off - nearly died (this is the first time it's happened to me (seizure) ). What are my rights with regards to being referred to a Thyroid specialist and what are my rights with regards to wanting tests done NOW to see if I actually am Fertile after years of thyroid probs??? This is seriously getting me down and I'm sick of being Fobbed off by my GP! Any help advice will be hugely appreciate!
