Guest guest
Hi, I have a question about my recent (new!) very high blood pressure episodes. My blood pressure used to be normal, in the mid-130's, but now in the last few days or possibly a week, it keeps spiking up to 185!! I get very dizzy and very frightened when that happens. It feels like I can't keep my balance. This happened again tonight. When I turn over in bed at night, it feels like the room is spinning. I would appreciate any input you all could offer me. At first when I felt dizzy a few days ago, I was really confused, not knowing if it was high or low blood pressure (I get dizzy from either cause). So I finally took my blood pressure tonight with my new little machine and found out it was quite high. (I am not drinking coffee, or taking any other things that might cause high blood pressure - no DHEA, no licorice, etc.) I didn't want to go to the emergency room tonight unless my blood pressure hit 200, because I didn't want to have any anti-thyroid drugs. I did some googling, and found out what I could do at home to help the scary symptoms: take more magnesium (ES), potassium, water, and (believe it or not) take Lugol's to help with higher blood pressure (found on a doctor web site!). So I did all these things tonight. My blood pressure is still high, but I don't feel dizzy or scared now. Causes: I'm wondering if my thyroid dose is too high (60 mg + 45 mg dessicated thyroid " time release " per day). I lost 43 pounds this year (not from iodine though!). Could the large weight loss have caused me to need less thyroid, hence the high blood pressure? Background: I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos's. I have been on lots of Iodoral for 13 months now. Most of that time, I was at 50 mg or more; the last 8 months has been 100 mg or more. I felt wonderful, terrific all the time on iodine, & just love it. The last three months I have been taking progesterone bioHRT with no problems, and recently added in testosterone bioHRT(2 mg) and estrogen bioHRT (1.25 mg). I learned today while googling that estrogen can make thyroid more " active " somehow, so perhaps when I added that in, it magnified the way thyroid acts in my body? Last Nov., I was tested iodine deficient at 62% saturation. In Feb., after 3 months at 50 mg daily, I tested 58% saturation. Therefore Dr. Flechas confirmed that I had the symporter problem. So I added in all the necessary co-factors (B2 & B3, Vit. C, selenium, magnesium, sea salt, etc.). Between the weight loss and the high iodine use, could I have suddenly reached saturation, and now need less thyroid? I will be seeing my holistic doctor ASAP, and will be getting a blood test to get some objective answers. And I am getting ready to do another iodine laoding test. I am very interested in hearing about the experiences of others when they have reached saturation. Do you think that this recent high blood pressure and dizziness of mine is real iodine saturation, or just plain high blood pressure? In any case, I will reduce my thyroid dosage starting tomorrow. I am stopping the testosterone & estrogen completely for now, but continuing the progesterone. Any comments would be appreciated! Thank you for this wonderful resource site!
