Please pass this alert along to anyoneyou think may be interesting in running for the board.2007 Call for Nominations for ASA National Board of Directors 2007 Election Nominations ProceduresThe Autism Society of America (ASA) will hold elections in 2007 forone at-large director and two regional directors.A) Qualifications and ExpectationsIn March 2003, the ASA board approved a new Qualifications andExpectations Policy for members of the ASA Board of Directors. To viewthe Qualifications and Expectations Policy, please visit the ASAwebsite at http://www.autism-society.org/site/R?i=3ETLq46nBVlyja-EKsBLMQ.. .B) Nomination RequirementsA letter of nomination and a seconding letter of nomination arerequired from two (2) ASA members in good standing, other than thenominee. Letters must state whether the letter is a nomination orseconding letter.The nomination letter and seconding letter must include:* A statement indicating that the person being nominated hasagreed to be nominated;* A statement indicating whether a person is being nominated for:* Reasons the nominator considers the nominee to be a qualifiedcandidate, including, but not limited to personal skills andexperiences the nominee would bring to the ASA Board ofDirectors* Nominee's name, address, phone number and e-mail address and* Sender's name, address, phone number and e-mail address.If a candidate has his or her chapter's endorsement, then a letter ofsupport, signed by the chapter's president or vice president,should be sent to the nominating committee chair following submissionrequirements. This letter is in addition to the nomination andseconding letters, and is not a substitute. Chapter endorsement is nota requirement for candidacy.C) Submission RequirementsNomination and seconding letters must be sent to the nominatingcommittee chair by one of the following methods:E-mail:ruthelaine.hane@... Mail: Ruth Elaine HaneASA Nominating Committee Chair3247 Humboldt Avenue SouthMinneapolis, MN 55408D) DeadlineTo be considered, nomination and seconding letters must adhere to theconditions/rules stated herewith including, but not limited to, thefollowing deadlines: E-mail, postal mail and overnight mail must be sent (postmarked) nolater than Tuesday, March 20, 2007. (E-mail is to be sent by midnightin the sender's timezone.) The preferred method of submission is e-mail. However, any ofthe above-listed methods of submission are acceptable. E) Campaign GuidelinesCandidates for any position on the National Board of Directors of theAutism Society of America and all members of the Autism Society ofAmerica are expected to adhere to the following guidelines withrespect to campaigning for any ASA office:1. Members/voters will be given an opportunity to preview thedata submitted by each candidate on the candidate informationform to the nominating committee when it is posted on the ASAwebsite prior to the mailing of the ballots. This willbe the only "campaign information" that will bepermitted to appear on the ASA website.2. Candidates may not use the ASA communication vehiclesincluding, but not limited to, the ASA website, ASA-Net,chapter network or the Autism Advocate for the purpose ofcampaigning (either positive or negative). However,should a candidate have helpful information that falls withinthe normal domain of such communication vehicles, then he/shewill be permitted to provide such information. 3. ASA will not mail information or provide member address listson behalf of the candidates. 4. Candidates for any ASA office may not personally use any ASAmailing lists (state, local or national), including, but notlimited to, email lists for campaigning (either positive ornegative). This does not apply to the newsletter and/orwebsite of the individual's local or state chapters,which inform their membership of their candidacy for ASAoffice. Candidates for at-large director may not usenewsletters and/or websites from states other than their ownto announce their candidacy. 5. In the case of a candidate for regional director, all localand/or state chapters within the specific region may informtheir membership of the individual's candidacy for ASAregional director through their newsletters and/orwebsites. 6. ASA members may not personally use any ASA mailing lists(state, local or national), including, but not limited to,e-mail lists for campaigning (either positive ornegative). ASA members may not use newsletters/websites,except as noted in guidelines 4 and 5 (i.e., to announce anindividual's candidacy, as specified, for the at-largedirector and a regional director). Therefore, there willbe no campaigning in any ASA-related newsletter and/orwebsite.7. No ASA staff member will publicly participate in campaigningon behalf of candidates (i.e., will not participate in a massmailing, email, telephone campaign, etc.). 8. Any individual seeking office is expected to uphold thedignity of ASA. He/she will not engage in (and willdiscourage other people or groups who support his/hercandidacy from engaging in) any campaign activity that mightbring discredit to his/her opponent(s), to ASA or to theautism community at large. 9. Any candidate found by the nominating committee to be inviolation of any of the campaign guidelines, or who hasfalsified information submitted on the candidate informationform (or on any ASA communication vehicle) will be referred tothe ASA Executive Committee of the Board of Directors forremoval from the election or, if discovered after theelection, removal from the ASA Board of Directors, ifapplicable.
