Guest guest
Hi all, As you know, was established as an informational support group for local families dealing with autism. When I joined, very few people that I knew of, were persuing biomedical treatments. I realized that this board was not the place to post questions and concerns about biomedically related concerns. After speaking to from Dr. DeMio's office, I was directed to a newly formed biomedical group in Columbus known as " Autism-Biomed-Ohio " . Most members were treating their children through Dr. DeMio's practice in Seven Hills. All were involved in biomedical alternatives. As you know, Dr. DeMio's practice has expanded to include an office in Columbus, to which he travels twice a week. As more and more people began to explore treatment options, word spread and the Columbus based group grew to include members from Cleveland and from other States. This is a good thing! The majority of people are patients of Dr. DeMio, therefore, with an expanded member base, there is more information, shared ideas and support. However, is still a support group, as originally established, and that should not change. We have a significant number of members who not persuing biomedical alternatives and should not be overwhelmed with those of us who are. There is a wealth of information in our files directing us to Doctors, Therapists, schools, camps, etc. We have polls that are pertinent to our area and we have a photo section that I absolutely love! We also use this group to connect with one another socially through playdates, parties and mom's night's out. How great is that???? n has worked tirelessly to start this group, moderate it and keep up with it's members' needs. It is not anyone's intent to change the focus of this group. That is why I am posting this. As you know, the Columbus group has been sponsoring very helpful biomedical information meetings on a regular basis. Since I commute between Cleveland and Columbus (not really knowing WHERE I live...LOL :0)....), I have been able to attend quite a few of these meetings, especially during the summer months when I am there full time. We have had wonderful speakers including Dr. DeMio, Shoemaker (Parent Liazon), Dr. Devin Houston from Houston's Enzymes, Dr. , a Mercury free dentist, as well as very knowledgable parents who have been able to share valuable information about things such as vaccination exemptions, supplements, HBOT, etc. NE Ohioan's who have joined this group, have expressed a desire to hold similar meetings, locally. P and H got the ball rolling by organizing our first such meeting at Barry Galvin's, who BTW, graciously allowed us the use of her facility at no charge!!!! Dr. D and were our speakers, the topic being an intro to Biomedical Treatment. n, organized and presented at our second meeting on Mon. July 30th. She did a terrific job. The topic was " Dietary Interventions " . Afterwards, the four of us got together for some drinks and (non GF/CF/SF/YF, SCD illegal, and non Rotated) appetizers and sandwiches... (so we don't always practice what we preach to our kids, OK?????). We discussed the future of our meetings and decided that every third Monday would be good, and we hope to continue meeting at Barry Galvins. We would be more than willing to move the meetings around, if we could procure the meeting space at no charge, so your input is welcome. Any ideas for topics are encouraged. Also, if anyone can arrange for Guest Speakers who are willing to present without charge, PLEASE let us know!!!! Now that we have our own meetings, even though many members have also joined with Autism-Biomed-Ohio, it makes sense that we still use our NE board for local announcements, including biomedical information and meeting agendas. That should prevent any confusion that may crop up between the two locations. The " Autism-Biomed-Ohio " group will continue to meet the needs of people interested in biomedical interventions (primarily patients of Dr. DeMio) from both parts of the State. Our Columbus counterparts have recently started a group similar to ours, focusing on more local events, not necessarily related to biomedical interventions. Separating geographical agendas will allow us to continue to discuss our kids biomedical treatments, confusion free. Hopefully, we can continue to post pertinent biomedical info on , without infringing on the interests of the entire group. At the same time, we can continue to focus on a wide variety of topics, discussions and agendas without shifting the basic foundation of the group! Again, your ideas, comments and suggestions are both welcome and encouraged!!!!! This a wonderful support group and I'm happy to be a member! Take Care, -Trish from Cleveland...or is it Columbus? Sorry, I'm a little confused right now!!!!
