Guest guest
Another toxic side-effect of Autism. Family tension and struggling with their own grief. It is sad, but not surprising. I cannot imagine how my family would deal with such a devastating issue in the public eye. Guest guest
Personally, I feel sorry for the family. They have a very tough balancing act. The s cannot take their personal views and ride with them. They have many to answer to, especially big $ sponsors and board of directors. On the other hand, can say whatever she wants. She is her own individual. She stated in her interview that she was speaking on her own behalf and NOT for Autism Speaks. She is a mother expressing her own views and personal experiences with her child. is trying ot help and is going out on a limb on all of our behalfs. Those who were supposedly offended (referred to in the s letter) need to understand that all views need to be heard, not just their own. Guest guest
I think 's parents, as well-meaning as they were starting out, are in the cult of " elite consensus " as Naom Chompsky puts it. Their grandson was their inspiration for getting involved in this cause, yet they defy their grandson's mother's up-close and personal experience with her own child. I think she must be an extraordinarily brave and clear minded person to stick to what she knows the way she does. Is there a gene for that or can we buy some of it OTC? > > > > > > Just curious how everyone feels about this: > > > > > > , daughter of Bob & Suzanne , > > > recently appeared with Kirby, author of > > Evidence of Harm, to > > > discuss biomedical interventions, mercury toxicity > > and the like. > > > (http://www.autismmedia.org/media15.html) Whether > > or not you embrace > > > biomedical interventions is moot, this statement > > from Autism Speaks > > > left us flabbergasted. Guest guest
Did any one else respond to this and watch. I gave my comments. I'm not sure where my thoughts are going to and why, but what the heck! BTW. Story to share. My son with food allergies, we were going to look into trying Zyrtec. I called Pfizer, waited a couple days, still no call back to see if any of his allergens were in it. Called again. BTW, just trying to find a number was like looking for a needle in the hay stack! Anyway..they said they would have to call the plant where it was manufactured to see what was in it and that could take up to two weeks. Imagine and drug company not knowing and having the list of ingredients so that parents like myself could call in to see if it contained milk, soy, gluten, etc.. Isn't that amazing and shocking? BTW, they never did call me back!!!!!!!! There was always a debate on Tylenol, if is contained soy or not a few years ago. Some said yes, some no. You call, I'm not sure what the answer ever was, on the internet it seemed like parents were all being told something different. For my guy with a severe peanut and soy allergy, we just don't do Tylenol just because you can not get a straight answer. Maybe this has changed but this was very controversial 3-4 years ago. And we are to trust them with vaccines? Something BIG is going on. I wish for an Brocovich (sp) to crack this case!!!! Tammy How do you feel about this? Guest guest
I feel bad for ....she seems to be caught in a terrible middle...and risking so much..God Bless her!! As to families and Autism....I don't think there is a family on here whose family isn't suffering in so many ways. Our family suffers from the stresses of what it takes...the changes...and the financial risks we have to take to keep on this path...for me I hold a mirror under my marriage every so often to see if it is still breathing and go on...as a lot of us do....I honestly can say that autism hasn't made my marriage into the mess it is....at least directly...indirectly...definately...hubby is soooooo metal toxic...and therefore....oh crap...you know the story...most of us are living it. Guest guest
Personally I find Autism Speaks a frightening organization. They are not committed to treatment in any way. Research is where the profit making is, treatment isn't. While I don't believe all research is bad and I do believe that research is needed, I also know treating the kids that are diagnosised w/ Autism just as important. Autism Speaks doesn't agree. ----- Original Message ----- From: AutismLink @... (E-mail) Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2007 1:47 PM Subject: [ ] How do you feel about this? I watched the 30 minute video (which was edited) and it was a very personal conversation based on 's experience and understanding of her child's difficulties. She says there that she is NOT speaking as a representative of Autism Speaks. http://www.autismmedia.org/media15. html MrsDebMay@... wrote: It is hard to know what to say without seeing the interview but off the cuff, I am not surprised. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that although Cure Autism Now and Autism Speaks have now merged and become one larger organization it is very committed to finding a cure for this epidemic. Obviously that takes tremendous dollars which we plan on raising locally and nationally. With a larger organization come many things...one of the many positive things is National awareness through television and radio, corporate sponsors like General Motors and Toys R Us and more support. CAN/AS are definitely concerned about the biomedical aspects of Autism and do not at all deny the role it plays in figuring out this puzzle. Everyone needs to keep an open mind, in spite of all our different beliefs, so that we can stay focused on our mission...finding the cure for our children wherever it may lie. Guest guest
You are so welcome... I hope this helps in some way to let everyone know that CAN/AS are just as passionate and determined as ever to find a cure. I also think we all have to be careful to not believe everything we read as information can be misinterpreted, inaccurate or just plain wrong. Guest guest
I don't know...it's a tough one. I think that's just how things go - larger organizations with more more different interests have to compromise. But, my understanding is that there are also funds currently being raised that are specifically earmarked for environmental factors research? Shari, maybe you can tell us more about this! Thanks, sharigoldberg22@... wrote: you get the picture...any advice? See what's free at AOL.com. Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha!
