CQL’s Community Life® LENS Fall 2007 Conference

September, 2007 Des Moines, IowaOctober, 2007 Raleigh, North Carolina

CQL’s new Community Life® LENS experience brings together a unique blend of experiential exercises to explore quality of life within a community context through:

o Learn

o Explore & Experience

o Network

o Strategize & Share

Participants are part of a unique community learning experience, exploring the web and going out into the community to learn about quality of life, community data, making collective decisions from different perspectives, and developing a strategic community focus. Under the guidance of CQL’s expert facilitators and community representatives, participant teams will discover how to make changes in their own communities and for the lives of people supported in their organizations.

LEARN and EXPLORE: Participants will go out into the community and explore how transportation, education, employment, housing, health care, and recreation and leisure affect people’s quality if life. Attendees will assess a community and identify the priority issues for the people living in that community.

NETWORK: Participants will focus on an organization’s Personal Outcomes data to determine that organization’s priority needs. The Personal Outcome Measures® are a powerful tool for evaluating personal quality of life and the degree to which organizations individualize supports to facilitate outcomes. Personal Outcomes are not measures of program efficiency or effectiveness. Rather, they focus on specific issues that matter most to people. Groups will then re-focus on the community to identify issues the organization shares in common with this community. Groups will learn how to develop community partnerships that will make community living and inclusion better for everyone.

STRATEGIZE: Participants will create plans to make the community a better place to live for everyone. The plans will include methods to assess and report progress, and directives for building strategic partnerships. Groups will leave with an understanding of how this process and end product plan directly impacts people with disabilities. This plan directly correlates to the DD Councils’ role to change community. This workshop provides another tool, in addition to gathering public input and data, to determine where change needs to happen.

We will give participants the tools to replicate this same exercise in people’s own organizations and communities. We are encouraging people outside of the disability community to also attend this conference as the focus is making changes to better the lives of ALL people in the community.

Participants can register online at:

http://www.thecouncil.org/conferences/cqls-fall-2007-community-life-lens-conference

or call Fender at 410-583-0060.

If you want this Community Life® experience, but you can’t come to the conference, we can come to your organization or region! Call Cade at 815.469.6293 to discuss the possibilities.
