Guest guest
Hi - I wish I knew. I have been on two tablets for awhile now. And am upping to four to equal 50mg of Iodoral. I am new to this regimen as well. I have a goiter that suggests Hashimoto's but all my numbers in blood work are great. I feel awful. I suspect some issues with my adrenals too. Taking matters and my health in my own hands now. (See a doc next week and then another one a week after that). Everyone seems to start with 50 mg. I know when I went to 1 and a half i began the detox. Fast heart beat, headache but that cleared away when I drank the Celtic Sea salt mixed in water. Immediately. I take that for heartburn (I have that gerd thing going on). Try upping at one half tab each time and see how you feel. You are doing the salt water as well, correct? And the supplements: Selenium, Zinc, Vit C, Vit D3 and B complex? and Magnesium. > > Hello, > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my dose should be? I never did do any testing. > > If this is covered in any of the links or files, please direct me. > > Thanks, > > >
Guest guest
Shall I call you mzooky? I have Hashi's too and am currently treating adrenals so am feeling better in that department. I had my thyroid out and have spent years with bloodwork " in range " but living a life of misery as far as symptoms. As you say--taking matters more into my own hands now. I got the headache right away with the one tablet and when I increased my sea salt it disappeared immediately. When I went to two tablets, where I am now, I started getting heart palps--we'll see how that goes. I have the GERD thing too and am convinced it's either adrenal or thyroid related. You say the salt helps that? I thought I was noticing a reduction in symptoms since taking the salt but didn't think it was the salt--is that a common thing? Yup, yup. Doing all the companion supplements. I have to or the Iodine police might come and get me! > > > > Hello, > > > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by > adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my > dose should be? Guest guest
Oops, I have been sooo good lately about signing Barb at the end of my posts. And then I forget. When I signed on, I didnt see where I could enter my name. But, mzook is fine, too! I feel so mistreated by my doctors. Or, ignored. I tell them what is troubling me and what is just plain weird about some symptoms. I have maybe four or five that are troublesome - the hair falling out in handfuls, the flaky skin, exhaustion/forgetfulness and wanting so much salty. My doc recommended I see a derm about the skin, an endo for the goiter and said I have a " pica " about the salt. That was the end of my $350 doctor visit. I feel like emailing her and ask did she even consider I may have the beginning of adrenal issues? Since none of the previous endos I had seen for goiter felt like treating it until after they removed it, that there is STILL the possibility I have sluggish thyroid as well that just a TSH number didn't find? I was just beginning the spiral downward and here was an opportunity for her to find out what was going on! Salt craving? Just a pica? That was 02/10. It wasn't going to cost her a thing to just " humor " me and order those blood/saliva tests. My deductible was met - what a good chance to shut me up! Was she afraid to actually find something and not have another doctor to push me off on? When I first began the Iodoral, I had the palps when I would lay down to sleep at night. I sometimes awoke and made a SW drink at 2 am! (I noticed I would also get them with wine. I had organic red wine but did NOT get the palps?) I read where infra-red saunas help with adrenal issues. I have my second one scheduled tonight - there is a mini health spa at a health food store near me. Those saunas are pure wonderful. I recommend them to anyone - 30 mins. 127 degrees. Ahhhhhh.... I also am considering a deep tissue massage to remove toxins a bit too. I have gone back to dry brushing my skin. Hope I am doing that correctly. Oh, and have begun Oil Pulling with coconut oil. Supposed to remove toxins as well. I just wonder how I will feel without all these toxins? I am not sure why the SW drink helps with my reflux/burning but I get relief immediately. There may be a reason. Probably something awful that I have not done for myself!! lol. I will be sure to share any new " findings " on some of these new things I am trying. Take Care! ~~Barb > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by > > adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my > > dose should be? Guest guest
If you can do hot baths at home I would do those in between the saunas. Your skin really does detox a lot! You can either load the bath water with epsom salts for magnesium, or you can load with blended lemon/baking soda. The differential in the bath water from your own tissue water pulls things from your skin and helps the detoxing. I was hearing on the adrenal board that head pounding at night can be low adrenals. Is that what you are talking about in palps??? laura On 2/3/2011 7:37 AM, mzookiej wrote: Oops, I have been sooo good lately about signing Barb at the end of my posts. And then I forget. Guest guest
Hi Barb, No one seems to be replying about when to know when I'm at the proper dose of Iodoral. Hmmm. Well, I think we are in an area that mainstream doctoring is not good at and that's why we get to do things ourselves. I spent some years treating from one specialist to the next: dermatologist, rheumatologists, neurologist, allergist, orthopedic surgeon, ob/gyns,etc. Everyone likes to send you somewhere else based on the symptom. It took me a long time to figure out that they were all connected to thyroid (and adrenals, and sex hormones--that balance). Western doctors don't generally " believe in " saliva tests or even in the concept of adrenal fatigue so it's not surprising that they wouldn't pursue that avenue. You'd have to see a naturopath for those kinds of things. Next time I wake up with GERD symptoms I'll try some salt water! Thanks for the tip. > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by > > > adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my > > > dose should be? Guest guest
That's probably because there are no absolutes. You just play with the dose until you either feel something change for the better or your condition improves. Guest guest
I started on 50mg Iodoral and that worked well for a while. then I began to feel poorly so finally increased to 100mg--that seems like a good dose for me still. you just have to experiment. if you have health issues, then 100mg might work better. Guest guest
Hi Steph, I just read that it is something we will need to take the remainder of our life. What about the companion nutrients? I’m “hoping” that eventually I won’t need to take so many different supplements. When do we know when we can cut down on the dosage? Is it when our body tells us? I’ve noticed my temperatures are getting better. They are still low, but up from what they were before. I also sleep better! Guest guest
Hi - I wonder that too. I understand that one cannot " overdose " on iodine, but can one be " wasting " it? What is the right amount? Does it vary day to day? week to week? More when under stress or illness, back off when feeling alright? Too bad there wasn't a litmus to see if you are just wasting it by going to the bathroom. That would be most helpful. Dip strip into stuff and match colors. Too red you are wasting iodine. Too blue and you are not getting enough. Green? Perfect amount. Remember it for now. Something! Come on. this is the 21st century isn't it? I have taken 50mg so far, and I feel a little " feverish " . Almost as if I have a sinus infec? But I am wondering could that be where it is concentrating to disinfect? Does it even do that! Ha. I don't even know what I am talking about. I know when it is in my thyroid, it feels like the thing is trying to jump out of my neck...so now it kind of feels like my sinuses are looking for a way out. I will keep investigating and try to find something! ~~Barb > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by > > > > adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my > > > > dose should be? Guest guest
Hi , Thanks - I will try that. I always meant to, but zippin in and out of a shower saves so much more time. Now, I must make time for healing. I will do the epsom salts. When I first began the iodine my heart would race and feel like it was coming out of my chest - scared me like you wouldn't believe - and then after drinking the detox water IT WENT AWAY! ;0 YAY!! But I am noticing my head pounding - like NOW. Almost like a sinus infection. Ouch. Constant buzz in my ears, too. All day. ZZZZZzzzzzzzz. Sometimes the pitch goes up a little, then down. But it is non-stop. Gead I can't wait till this goes away. ~~~Barb > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by > > > > adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my > > > > dose should be? Guest guest
I am curious/cautios about this statement. Are you saying if I, or worse yet, my 3 y.o. grandaughter, were to drink, say 2 galloons of lugols solution, that this would not be an overdose? I realise for whatever reason that the medical community has demonised iodine, trying to imply that physiologic doses are somehow dangerous. However, to put out on the internet, for any , of any age, I.Q level, etc. to read, that " You can't overdose on iodine " may be imprudent, and even harmful to our cause. Can just see the headline; " Fraternity initiation turns deadly, after inductee required to drink 2 gallo ons of iodine " Fraternity president says " Thought it was safe, read you can't O.D. on iodine. " Or something like that. There are many beneficial and benign substances, including water, that can be deadly if you take too much, over too short a period of time, which is the definition of an overdose.Jim > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > > > > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by > > > > > adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my > > > > > dose should be? Guest guest
Hi Barb, I'm with you. I like the test strip idea.Perhaps you could be the first to invent that one, get a patent, make the big bucks and retire for life. Also. Do you know you are at a sufficient dose when the Iodoral stops running around raising your temperature and flushing out various systems and organs? Is that when to stop raising the dose? I don't mind taking it forever, I just want to know when I'm at a sufficient dose. So far I'm enjoying the temperature raise (mine's always low), increased energy, smoothed out GI functions and better sleep. Not complaining! Keep me posted on your adventures with iodine. Guest guest
Thank you Kathleen for catching this. You have to use common sense. The dosages that have been used are up to 300 mgs with the 200 - 300 mgs being for extreme sickness such as cancer. The majority stay under 100 mgs. It's like anything. You would be in trouble taking 100,000 mgs of Vitamin C - for one thing it isn't likely and why would you - the same is true for iodine. Have you read the new member document. We have clearly stated the parameters for usage there. Re: Proper Dosage I am curious/cautios about this statement. Are you saying if I, or worse yet, my 3 y.o. grandaughter, were to drink, say 2 galloons of lugols solution, that this would not be an overdose? Guest guest
Hi Barb I am experiencing the sinus-y " feverish " thing right now. My temp spiked last week. It was actually above normal for a few days, which is very unusual for me. I am finding saline sinus rinses (I don't add iodine) to be helpful in keeping things comfortable. Guest guest
Hi...I am new to this group. I was recently diagnosed with Lyme Disease with Co-Infections, Bartonella, ehrlichia. My naturopath told me I have fungus and still have parasites. I have been doing a lot of detoxing for my liver, gallbladder, pancreas & small intestine, which she said were in a lot better shape, and now my lungs and colon *need help* as she puts it. I take a lot of supplements but I am not taking iodine so I ordered Trimedica, Thysine, Colloidal Iodine from iherb.com last night and now I'm wondering if this is good to take and is the right dosage because I honestly know nothing about iodine or how to take it, and having Lyme now plus other auto immmune issues, I thought this might help with my severe muscle cramping in my calves and upper legs in the back of my knees. I do bentonite, Coloidal Silver and a product from Unda for parasite treatment, and I did have my thyroid tested (11/4/2010) but they didn't run the reverse T3, and it said NO Thyroid Antibodies, so I don't know IF I have I am Hypothyroid or IF I have hashimotos.....or if my adrenals are messed up or what my ferritin level is, and the doctor did do the right tests, but I think the lab messed up....is that possible? I only see a naturopath and an environmental doctor, so they are not mainstream. I am seeing a chiropractor who took x-rays today and seems to think I have sciatica issues, but also maybe a herniated disc because I have so much pain and weakness in my left leg along with severe leg/calve cramps, and I have severe tailbone, buttock & hip pain. Can any of this be related to having no iodine in the system or does anyone else have any of these issues and what is being done. I am about to go off the deep end because of all this pain, which makes it difficult to walk, stand, sit and especially sleep....which I get none of......3-4 hours unrested sleep a night because I wake up with these horrific leg cramps. Thanks! L.P. "Make me sweet again, fragrant and fresh and wild, and thankful for any small event." (Rumi) In a message dated 2/4/2011 8:51:09 A.M. You'd have to see a naturopath for those kinds of things.Next time I wake up with GERD symptoms I'll try some salt water! Thanks for the tip.-
Guest guest
I have a sauna in my master bath (I now use it for storage) and had the unit and controls removed. I also remodeled a few years back and had my tub taken out and a shower put in by BathFitters, but I am not a bath person. "Shower person" only as it was so difficult even way back when to step over the tub to get into the shower or try to get OUT of the tub....today it would be a feat I could not accomplish. I have absolutely NO flexibility in my body and I am in so much pain most of the time that everything I do is not comfortable or easy, but very painful and difficult. I wish things were different ;-( BUT....I will keep pluggin' along and hope I get some flexibility again and the pain subsides. L.P. Guest guest
Hi Steph, My apologies for not rereading the articles you have posted in files and links. I do have trouble finding things in there--so many articles and not categorized in a way that works with my pea brain. I'll go copy the pertinent ones and put them on my own computer ao I'm not re-asking questions. Thanks for the top number there--300 mgs as an extreme. That's helpful. So, I imagine most people are between 50-100 mg or so. That gives me a range. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > If I'm starting on one tablet of Iodoral (12.5 mg) and moving up by > > > > > > adding one more tablet per week, how do I tell when to stop or what my > > > > > > dose should be? Guest guest
Thanks Kathleen. Have you read the new member doc. you received when you joined this group? If you didn’t save it, you can go to our home page and go to FILES then go to New Member doc. and read that. Read all you can there and it will get you up to speed. The iodine we use is Lugol's in solution form or tablet form (Iodoral). There are also companion nutrients that are important for you to use along with the iodine. All this info is there for you...go to FILES, the click on GroupGuidelines-READ FIRST-New Members...then click on Iodine New Member doc., also important to read is Salt and Iodine Protocol.doc. and To Do List for New Members. Between reading what I have recommended and your reading the daily emails, and asking questions, this will get you up to speed very quickly. Best, Kathleen Re: Re: Proper Dosage Hi...I am new to this group. Guest guest
Yes that is where the majority of us are. The files are a mess. The group was set up by another woman in 2006 and there are many things that don't apply anymore. I just need time to clean out and reorganize. Guest guest
Hi Jaye- Took my temp today four times today - three hours after waking up it was 97.2, three hours later it was 97.1,another three- 98.0 and just a bit ago- 96.6. I am certain it is detox. I went from 12.5 to 50mg in two days. Not bad, though and getting kind of antsy to get things working. I believe someone here said to take it for five days, but for the life of me I can't remember why. ~~~Barb > > >> > >> > >>
