Guest guest
Dani, yes, you can go from hyperthyroid to hypothyroid. It's very common with Hashimoto's. You can read about it here: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/hashimotos/ > > Hi,I'm new to the group and getting desperate for help. I can't focus enough to read much online or offline anymore. I've been having health problems and strongly suspect it's because of my thyroid. I am not going to a doctor because of lack of money and lousy insurance, and the doctors around here are just out for milking the patients for as much money as they can get without really helping them. A couple of months ago I was so sick with the IBS-D or whatever it is, and needed to go get a couple of bags of IV fluids for dehydration. Afterwards, my head had never felt clearer. At that time the emergency place I went to, took a a few blood tests and one of them was for thyroid. They said all my blood tests were bad results and wanted to take them again. I haven't gotten back there yet. Anyway, they said the thyroid was very low, indicating hypo. What's strange is that years ago a thyroid test indicated that I was borderline hyperthyroid. Anyway, over the past couple of months my hair has really thinned and it's scaring me. I think it's stopped now that I'm not in as bad condition as I was, but haven't noticed it growing back. > > Symptoms: thinning hair; tired most of the time; foggy brained; ADD-like; weight loss due to IBS-D and not knowing what I can eat; really bad memory; tired and no enery; shoulder joints been sore for about six months now; very sensitive to caffeine........I'm probably forgetting some symptoms but can't think, as usual. Guest guest
Yes, it’s an excellent book! Our family also went gluten free. I could not get over all the stomach problems it was causing for our entire family. My doctor thought I had IBS. Apparently, it was coming from the gluten, dairy and soy I was eating. I felt so much better after giving those items up!! Lori Re: New to group, with questions.... One idea for recovery on the IBS symptoms is to read " the Maker's Diet. " by Jordan Rubin. He was deathly ill with IBS or Crohns and no doctor could help him. Someone helped him by eating a certain very healthy way and he is a picture of health today. I don't remember enough to describe it. I also have the brain fog and such. I have been taking the iodine for a couple of weeks, 25 mg total, along with the Vit. C, Magnesium, Selenium, high quality Multi vit., and the salt water or extra salt on food. I had several days of constant post-nasal drip but my head finally is feeling " empty " and funny symptoms around my ears are going away!!! If you have been so sick, you might also need to look at fatigued adrenals. I am sure that is affecting me as well. From the group page, there are New Member files which have all the FAQ. Here is one portion: Supporting Nutrients for taking Iodine - a. Vit C – 2,000 – 5,000 mgs / day b. Selenium – 200 – 400 mcg / day c. Unrefined salt (Celtic) – ½ tsp / day d. Magnesium – 400 mgs / day e. Optional – ATP CoFactors -1 tablet 2x / day On 2/4/2011 6:01 AM, destinysbeckoning wrote: Hi,I'm new to the group and getting desperate for help. Guest guest
Hello new person Dani and welcome, I have had every symptom you describe--I have Hashimoto's and had my thyroid removed in 2003. It's particularly bad when your brain doesn't work and you cant' think to research the situation, isn't it? You can have what seem like hyperthyroid symptoms and you can be hyperthyroid and then hypothyroid. In fact, it's common to go hyperthyroid before your thyroid wears out and you then become hypothyroid. Your symptoms are very typical hypothyroid symptoms. Since they told you your thyroid labs were " bad " at a regular hospital that probably means they are really bad, however, before you go treating things you do need to see what the status is and that means some labs and a return to the hospital or a doctor to get them. You need a complete thyroid panel which most importantly includes what are called FREE T3 and FREE T4. Insist on the Frees. If you can also get them to include an iron panel in the same blood draw, you will need that information to help you treat a thyroid condition. Other than that, if you can read snippets, go to Stop the Thyroid Madness website and read articles there. When you get labs, you can post them on the natural thyroid hormone group or the thyroidless group--a good group even if you have a thyroid (see links below) and they will give you good info. As for the iodine/iodide, you can read the articles posted on this site under " files " and " links " . I would urge you to pursue the thyroid angle as a starting place. thyroidless NaturalThyroidHormones > > Hi,I'm new to the group and getting desperate for help. Guest guest
Add me to that club as well Lori! Although I was never told to stop eating anything and no test other than scopes were done. I was handed many prescriptions tho. My daughter and I are GF and much better off. ~~~Barb > > > > Hi,I'm new to the group and getting desperate for help. Guest guest
Have you heard about LDN (Low Dose Naltrexonee) for help with your IBD? There are studies out there that show a big improvement with it. I take it for fibro and anti-aging. Along with pain reduction, I am convinced it has really helped balance my immune system. Have been sick for YEARS! Hoping to get off of disability in a year or two if I can get everything healed. In the meantime, I keep reading. LDNInfo.org is the website I think. You can also do a search on . There are several LDN groups, one specifically for IBD too. You can learn a lot there. Guest guest
Wow, thank you all so much. I have so much to check out and get me started, once my mind can adjust and I'll take it a step at a time. I wanted to respond to each reply, but as our phone line keeps going out off and on due to bad weather, and a bad line, I can't trust I won't get kicked offline again. We're still on dial up. I appreciate very much each reply, and will start trying to really focus and make notes, and get started. Sorry this is rushed, but want to finish some things up online just in case I get kicked off soon. I now feel there's at least a spark of hope with this health mystery ~dani~ > > Hello new person Dani and welcome, > > I have had every symptom you describe--I have Hashimoto's and had my thyroid removed in 2003. Guest guest
Dani, There's definitely a spark or maybe a bunch of sparks of hope. Darn that you're on dial-up--that really throws a wrench in the works. Any chance you can get DSL or cable? It would really help with the researching one step at a time. Hang in there. > > > > Hello new person Dani and welcome, > > > > I have had every symptom you describe--I have Hashimoto's and had my thyroid removed in 2003. Guest guest
I'm behind on the digest; apologies if this is redundant, but I wanted to share my experience as it might help you. I suffered with IBS-D and was medicated for anxiety for years. I was also constantly exhausted and simply didn't realize it. I've removed gluten, sugar, and dairy from my diet as well as supplementing with iodine. I'm now free of anxiety meds; anxiety is well under control; IBS is barely a memory. Now I'm just working on my nodules and candida. Kim > > > > On 2/4/2011 6:01 AM, destinysbeckoning wrote: > > > > > > > > Hi,I'm new to the group and getting desperate for help.
