Guest guest
Yea, Kathleen, I don't know whats up with that.Might check to see if you are a member, I don't know. I do know I sometimes seem to find the NTH group slightly less restrictive, but thats just my perception. I feel both groups tend to get too caught up and focused on lab tests. " Here's my latest labs, what do they mean? " Would just once like to see a responce, " O.k., but how do you FEEL? What are your symptoms, what are your temperatures, What kind of a responce do you get from the pupil test? " But then, I kind of have a bug up my butt about lab tests. Its not that i think they have NO value, just that they are given a value higher than is justified. One of the reasons I like being a member of this group is I don't see any/many posts about lab tests. More conversations about Iodine, and the mechanism behind how the body works, etc. I learn a lot from this group! ;-) Jim > > > > > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > > > > > I have now 'hit' 50mg of iodine. Guest guest
Not disagreeing at all with that. I didn't find any problem with Iodine, and I'm AF. Wife it knocked her on her butt. That was when I had her try it, soon after she had an adrenal crash. Later, after she got her weight up, it was (80LBS at the worst point), and her BP more normal (basically 75/70 at the worst point!) I was able to introduce her to Lugols again, slowly. No problem.I don't think many people get AF as bad as she. And, as you point out, if you have other serious medical conditions, could also increase reaction.Jim > > > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > > > I have now 'hit' 50mg of iodine. Guest guest
This isn't a direct answer to you, Jim, just some comments I've collected while reading this thread. To be fair, the NTH adrenals group does not advocate (or it doesn't seem so to me) staying on HC forever. There is a lot of discussion on how to wean off, when and why. And I do find there is a lot of talk about how one 'feels' compared to what labs say...although there is a lot of stress on labs. I'm a rather rules oriented person myself. Rules give me comfort. I know what to expect...(can you say I live with adrenal fatigue?? LOL). I think I can understand why labs are given the 'cachet " they have been. Again, to be fair, Val does not read them as most docs read them...which is kind of the point of the group, right? She is very good at what she does. But I do agree that there are generalizations made that may not suit all. Kinda like what docs tend to do... But different. My two cents... Guest guest
Question for you: What is your ferritin level? Guest guest
I agree that you should be on iodine. You really need to look up Shame's Ladder. Essentially, when you have thyroid and adrenal issues you should step each one up gradually like a ladder. One step up thyroid (iodine/armour) one step adrenal (could be cortisol if needed or it could just be a little more time than others might need before increasing thyroid doses). From: Ariel Monserrat <wolvenwood@...>iodine Sent: Fri, January 28, 2011 6:23:54 PMSubject: Re: Re: Iodine and temperatures Linn, I agree with you. When I first found out I had adrenal fatigue, I was using iodine. I don't think it hurt me one bit to use the iodine and I think it probably helped a great deal. If you need to detox from the bromide, and the like, then it makes sense to take care of that problem as well as the others. I'm sure there are people who can't tolerate it though, but I would imagine they are in the minority. IIRC, the owner of the adrenals list was EXTREMELY ill from AF and a few other things. Makes sense she couldn't tolerate it.One other thing; she cites a research paper on Hashi's in Japan and the high rate, believing that too much iodine can cause Hashi's. I'd like to point out that this is only ONE study and the author made that conclusion based on that one paper, which I've read. There is at least one other study I came across that completely invalidated that other study. The author of this other paper (it's in the Brownstein book on iodine) found that fishermen had Hashi's in high proportions; but residents in the town also had Hashi's and they were getting the same amount of iodine as the fishermen. One of the problems with that first study is that Hashi's has increased dramatically around the entire world; to me, that also invalidates that study. Also, I'm happy to announce that my temps that were running about 96.7; finally this a.m. it was at 98 - must be doing something right! I'm thinking that maybe I'm finally detoxed enough from the bromide, etc. like Brownstein said, you wake up one morning and find your temps are back to normal. I'm almost there.Basal temp should be 98.2 right?Ariel On Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 11:04 AM, Linn <linnmiller@...> wrote: I disagree, there are lots of folks that have taken iodine and healed adrenal problems at the same time. Guest guest
I'll third that. I was treated for adrenal exhaustion by an Integrative Medicine MD, without iodine, for most of a year (she said my saliva test was the worst she'd ever seen). Nothing she did healed my situation (which included 3mg of iodine/day), just minimal change. Lost my insurance and couldn't consult with her anymore. Health crash forced me to look for solutions and found iodine. Started iodine and got advice on additional supplements for healing adrenals. Took extra unrefined salt (1+ tablespoon per day), extra Vit C, Vit E (1200iu/day), started Vit D3 every day (8000iu), plus Isocort (1-2 pellets per day). After 2-3 months of this, I had to stop the Isocort (adrenal glandular) because when I would take it, I would become overadrenalated. Since then, I can do my work for hours at a time and not crash constantly. I have energy to spare and have been doing music and performance with my partner, etc. Can go out and dance for hours. And also since then, have lost at least 20 pounds and not regaining. The body will not heal without iodine, so waiting until the adrenals are balanced is, imo, a bit foolish. It's like painting a picture and you need black paint, but you try to paint the whole thing without the black paint and you wait until the whole picture is finished before ever using any black paint. It's really hard to paint and leave all the spaces blank where the black is needed, and you'll probably have to go back in and add more color around all the places that you've now added the black paint. Better to have access to the whole palette. Imperfect analogy but I'm an artist so what can I say. Much of the modern epidemic of unwellness is the result of iodine deficiency, and without iodine there will be no healing. --V At 10:35 AM 1/28/2011, you wrote: >I second that. Guest guest
Jaye, I'm still just noticing that my temps are higher with HC, which I consider a good thing. They still aren't stable but I keep raising HC which raises temperature each week so I'll have to wait a bit to see if they stabilize. Guest guest
, 2-3 months is a quick turn around for severely depleted adrenals! Congrats! If I recall Dr. thinks it can take up to 2 yrs for severe depletion. Do you credit higher doses of iodine for that? Or just a combo of all the supportive nutrients? How long did you use 1+ TBSP of unrefined salt during the adrenal healing period? Guest guest
The Isocort had been prescribed at that level by my acupuncturist/ND. During the period I took that much salt, I craved it and it was no problem to ingest it. I had 1/2 tsp or more in large glasses of water several times a day, plus a lot on food. I just naturally cut back again once my adrenals were working better. I definitely think it was high doses of iodine that helped me, which is why I am skeptical of people who think it has to take years to recover. People will not recover without iodine, so why wait? I think it's purely theoretical and not demonstrated fact that the detox caused by iodine is too harsh on the adrenals. If you don't start detoxing, the adrenals are not going to heal, again, it's all connected. It's a fact that Vit C and unrefined salt feed the adrenals. Since the iodine protocol also requires those nutrients, to me they seem to be obviously good to take all together. I was not willing to listen to those who say adrenal exhaustion shouldn't have iodine, because I'd already listened to that type of voice with the Integrative Medicine MD I'd worked with and I knew that wasn't going to work, because it already hadn't. Oh-- btw, another great occurrence during that period of healing of my adrenals is that my temps are up to proper levels. I'm not freezing cold all winter and can never get warm like I lived for so long. It's a different world. -- >, > >2-3 months is a quick turn around for severely depleted adrenals! >Congrats! Guest guest
Yes! It's recommended to take at least 1 Tablespoon per day. --V At 04:57 PM 1/31/2011, you wrote: >Does taking more of the unrefined salt help quicken the recovery time for >the adrenals? > >Lori > ~~~ There is no way to peace; peace is the way ~~~~ --A.J. Guest guest
I will have to increase my intake. I actually like it anyway! I’m going to start sprinkling the fine Celtic Sea Salt on my popcorn!! Lori RE: Re: Iodine and temperatures Yes! Guest guest
what is isocort and what does it do iodine From: vbaker@...Date: Sun, 30 Jan 2011 17:01:43 -0600Subject: Re: Re: Iodine and temperatures I'll third that. After 2-3 months of this, I had to stop the Isocort (adrenal glandular) because when I would take it, I would become overadrenalated.Since then, I can do my work for hours at a time and not crash constantly. Imperfect analogy but I'm an artist so what can I say.Much of the modern epidemic of unwellness is the result of iodine deficiency, and without iodine there will be no healing.--VAt 10:35 AM 1/28/2011, you wrote:>I second that. Guest guest
Thanks for this reply ~ and if I may investigate further ... If I recall correctly you found out about the iodine protocol from the LDN forum and I am wondering where the specific adrenal support started ... sounds like maybe after or during the iodine protocol? Where did the LDN start/stop in this process? What I am curious about here is how much the LDN might have influenced your rapid turnaround and if one might be able to find similar results without including LDN. Of course each of us unique but often those who share similar afflictions also share similar paths to healing so the pieces of puzzles are helpful to get the big picture. > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > Hi > > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > I have now 'hit' 50mg of iodine.
