Guest guest
, Don't know where you got your facts. While cretinism may have been reduced, not at all sure about goiters. Actually, this well-intentioned effort actually had a # of negative consequences; when technicians developed the TSH test, they didn't adequately screen their test subjects for HYPOthyroidism, under the belief that it had been " Irradicated " as a result of iodine in salt. As a result, Dr.'s to this day are routinely telling their patients " Your TSH is 'only' 2.90, anything below 4.50 is not hypo. " Wrong!! Also, iodine in salt is totally inadequate to displace Floride, etc. In addition to people being told to restrict salt intake, etc. Not disputing the basic premise; iodine is essential for life. Both my wife and I had goiters.Unfortunately, Dr.'s are so fixated on TSH and total T-4 as tests for Hypo, they will ignore OBVIOUS signs and symptoms, including goiters!
